[AMC-List] 63 Classic clutch question

I'm posing this for a friend who has a 63 Classic
stick and small six.
He pulled the engine, swapped in a 64 American six
that I had, and bolted it back up. He used the same
clutch and tranny. Now the clutch rod is about a half
inch too long! He swears he put everything back in
right.
The only thing I can figure is the fork came off the
little ball, or the throw out bearing is in wrong. Any
thing I can toss his way.
I told him to take it apart again and double check
things. I gave him my American TSM as the clutch and
tranny should be the same save for the tail section of
the tranny....Russ
