If you read my AMO Nationals Trip story, something that came up from someone
along the way was their thought of creating an AMC Owner Directory.

Basically a booklet list of everyone who owns an AMC and that would be
willing to help out a fellow AMC'er in trouble. As he mentioned a couple
guys in Bowling Green, that may have made it easier.

So I am on that! I will create a booklet list of everyone that is
interested in being a part of it. It will be catagorized by states and then
cities of AMC territory. I will set up a list first on the net and work our
ways to a booklet to download.

IF you want to be a part, please let me know. IF you want to know more,
just ask. I will periodically remind on the newsgroup to keep it growing.
IF you wanted to add a pic or other info, that may not be a good idea as to
show locations of cars, may draw bad folks.
Just thinking Name and Phone Number should be enough for being stranded. An
e-mail could be used to increase communications and IF you want to add a
speciality knowledge... whatever you think.

Let me know what you think and help me get this going. We got more to offer
than AAA!
Thanks!
Richard

AMC team,
There are some items that I need that never seem to come up on EBAY, the
AMO, Hemmings or any other place in the world. I know somebody out there
has a parts car or has stripped a 71 Javelin. Please contact me. Looking
for:

1) Factory 7 blade fan, date coded 11/70 or 12/70. Have other 7 blade
fans I can trade including 70 AMX date code.
2) Factory heater cable, connects the Weathereye controls with the
heater valve. Passes through the firewall with a foam gasket. About 35"
long.
3) Single snorkel air cleaner breather bottom and small top lid, needs
to be from a 4 bbl engine. I will be glad to buy these piecemeal.
4) Short A/C hose, connects the compressor and the condenser (ends not
pitted/rusted, holes/damaged rubber is OK)
5) NOS Power Steering pressure hose

I am a big fan of Ron White one of the red neck comedians with Jeff
Foxworthy. On his most recent Comedy Central special it was titled "You
Can't Fix Stupid". He was referring to his new wife which he said was
his intellectual equal. He said as she gets older and droops and sags
plastic surgery could fix these problems, BUT Stupid is for ever!!!!!

I talked to and worked with Ron White backstage at the WVU Creative Arts center last year. He is for real. Right down to the bottle of real Liquor he will drink 3/4 of on stage by himself. One of the "runners" went and bought it before the show, no alterations to it's contents.
He was very down to earth, Bus driver left him asleep on his bus and he came in and wandered thru the building till he found backstage. No hassles no star crap.
I just hope the drink don't kill him to soon.

If you build two make one an automatic! Us "active types" tend to get banged up a bit now and again. It's real bummer when Yo can't drive your rambler cause it's a stick! I was contemplating a stick conversion to the Ambassador after seein the 4 speed Marlin at the Gaithersburg show, but now that I'm all busted up and recovering I can rememebr several stints in the past that have left me unable to drive a clutch.
I'm going to leave it automatic. That way someone can at least haul me around in it!

Years ago one of the shock companies had a full online catalog of every shock they made. It had all the demensions. It was an Adobe file format too IIRC. I have searched for it several times and not been able to find it's match. Believe me I could kick myself for not saving a copy to disc!
From what I remember for Franks car a 71-73 Mustang shock will fit. But maybe that was for the American body, Could even be the Rebel shock Eddie is looking for! KYB had a listing IIRC that showed an AMC body with the 71-73 mustang included for the same shock. tyrf looking for a front KYB shock for a 71-73 Mustang then see if you can get the same shock to come up for an AMC. Then you should be able to get one a bit cheaper then the custom shock. The American shocks on my front are low pressure gas Gabriels IIRC and they came in at less then $15 ea at Advance.

Whatever you do, don't show him the Chevy van I repowered with a Pacer 232!
A much better thing to do would be to gently point him in the direction of a
Jeep with a 6 cyl in it!

I am fearful of listing this on any of the local boards I belong to, lest I be struck down by the AMC Gods. I bought it primarily for the 327, as I was expecting the body to be a pile. Unfortunately, it has not yet achieved "pile" status. In fact, its pretty much all there except for the starter that needs to be rebuilt or a replacement located. The motor has not yet been disturbed. I posted a pic or two of it some time ago, but those were from the seller's listing - I'll take some more.

I think it would be best to see it go to someone here (or IFSJA) or at least someone that would have an interest in it other than hacking it up - ideally someone that already has a 327 and nothing to put it in. I would prefer not to let it sit and rot beside my barn, as I have no covered parking. Dana 27 front/53 rear, with a 3 on the tree and a Dana 20 transfer case. $500?

I initially bought it due to an interest in the motor itself, but upon researching it further it would seem incompatible and impractical for my uses. I don't have the old-school knowledge required to make the best of it. Timing is really the problem - I can't give it any right now with all the other vehicles I have. :( Its really best left together, which I am also considering. Don't worry - I'm not the scrapping type. It will not go to the crusher.

Located northwest of Detroit - look for the intersection of I-96 and US-23 on the map. No title, but no concerns of it being stolen. I would consider trades for a 70-up powerplant (like a 401), an aftermarket AMC FI system, some heads, aftermarket 4.0 stroker crank, or something else useful to a Jeeper. I own a Dauntless 66 CJ5, an 84 CJ8, an 85 CJ7, and a 98 XJ.

I'm not dead-set on unloading it, so any old-school Detroit area resources for knowledge on the drivetrain (specifically the motor) would be appreciated. I already have a shop that will handle the starter.

A: Cam profile would be related to your tire size as well as gear ratio. I
would run a high overlap to keep the VE down or you'll be running premium
all the time (or LPG) as compression while running will go up due to the
higher efficiency of the 4.0L head of putting air/fuel into the cyls. (It'll
be much closer to the static compression due to less losses) You may want to
run a similar cam to the one the Strokers are using to cure this issue.

I'm going out to pull the manifold off a 242 Jeep for
my Hornet. They have an engine with the head and FI
removed already so he will let loose of the exhaust
for $10. I've put the 242 head on my 258.
He also has a complete 242 FI in an 87 Cherokee.
Besides the obvious stuff to remove such as top
plumbing, intake and exhaust, what should I remove to
complete an FI conversion. I am putting my 258 bottom
in my 87 242. Whats a good cam profile for general
driving, no towing involved and a a 3.50 posi.....Russ

A: I have found the usual reason for burnt valves in a Ford is vacuum leak
on the intake making it run lean. (I have found the same on slant 6 with
power brakes with #6 cyl burnt and Jeeps with loose intake manifolds)

From: <francis.swygert@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
Subject: [AMC-List] Educating...

Well, you can't "educate" anyone that's not willing to listen.
Some old
guys just don't want too -- especially from a younger man. Of
course
some younger guys don't either. On hotrodders.com some kid came
on
insisting that his Nova had 5x4.5" wheels. Even when a coup[le
people
politely told him of his error, he still insisted, though he did
add
that maybe he was measuring wrong (nice of him!). When someone
posted
how to measure he had nothing else to say, so he must have! But
the
point is he posted that the Nova had the pattern after a couple
people
had already stated that Chevy wheels wouldn't fit (of course I
pointed
out that everyone forgets about AMC!!). I doubt "your" guy gets
out to
many AMC shows, or any shows. So I doubt he'll be doing much
harm.

I once told an old guy that I didn't want to buy a Fairlane I
went to
see. He still insisted on trying to sell me the car, that it was
in
perfect mechanical condition except for a burnt valve, and had
been
babied all it's life. I finally stated that something had to
cause the
burnt valve. At that point he got mad and told me to leave,
while
walking swiftly for his truck. We were out in the country, and
though I
was a kid (18 or 19) at the time, I grew up out that way too! I
seriously thought the guy was going for a shotgun!! He had a
limp --
turns out he was going for his cane, apparently thinking he was
going to
give us (I had a friend with me about the same age) a thrashing
for
being disrespectful, though I had been polite up to that point.
It
really ticked me off at the time that the old guy thought he was
going
to strike me with a cane, but we had already made it to the car
and
started backing out. My buddy thought the same as I and wanted
to run
for the car, but I grabbed him and told him we were NOT going to
run
from the old geezer, we hadn't done anything wrong, and I wasn't
going
to let him think he'd intimidated us -- which he had been trying
to do
the whole course of the "sale". I doubt "your" old guy will want
to take
