If he can read, give him some literature indicating that the 232 was made by AMC not GM

I don't know if this is what you need, but I have an old Borg Warner air
cooled out of a 65 Ambo wagon. torq tube of course. It worked really good,
for a time this parts car ran better than my nice one. Almost made me
convert to automatic.

"For what it's worth, I'm still trying to locate the '64 automatic
transmission for my Typhoon project. It's coming along nicely, and am
going to SC to pick up an engine in a week and a half. Joe has offered up a
fuse panel (thank you, Joe), and Mark "The Cripple" (just kidding, Mark) has
some stuff up in WV, which I still plan to drive up for the end of the
month."

MessageCraig below has a question on shocks. It seems front shocks for 67-69 are obsolete. I can't find any for my 68 Rebel convertible and he can't find any for his 67 Marlin. So if anyone here has had any luck finding FRONT shocks for either, or something that migth interchange, please reply here and also copy your reply to Craig who would appreciate it. Ironically REAR shocks don't seem to be a problem have found those and I also recently found a set of Max Air Gabriels for my 68 Rebel convertible "
Machine" also.

Hi Eddie,

I was wondering if anyone has any kind of an interchange for shock absorbers for AMCs. Specifically, I want to find performance shocks for my 67 Marlin which has a 401, headers etc. I had it to Kenosha in 2002. As you know, front 67 (68-69 too?) shocks are non existent. If you can find a set, they are too soft for the way I have this car set up. It is hard to believe that there aren't other shocks of very similar dimensions/mounting-type that would also fit these cars. I know I can get KYB gasadjust for the rear, but KYB says they never made front shocks.

To explain for example, I happen to know that the rear shocks for the Concord/Hornet are very similar to a 1958 Edsel Citation and also an early 70s Ford Courier truck! But these vehicles are never shown as having the same shocks because the orig. shocks for each vehicle is slightly different from each other. But they do fit. I owned an Edsel in the early 90s and had difficulty finding rear shocks for it. The Concord or Courier truck shocks worked. I am wondering if the same situation might exist for the front shocks of the late 60's big AMCs. Do you know of any alternates? If not, do you know of anyone in the hobby that may have information on this?

If I had my wish, I think I would like a set of KYB's all the way around.
One other question: I also have a 1987 Alliance convertible. I put Gabriel RedRyder shocks (I found on ebay) on it and it rides like a truck. They are gas charged and way to firm for the little Alliance. I would like to find regular hydraulic OEM shocks for this car. Thanks for any help!

How could he have production numbers when they are still being produced in a sub-basement of one of the old buildings in Kenosha!
Seriously, it's not just the old guys, When I was in highb school a friend bought a 67 American and went around telling everyone it had a chvy six in it. All his uncles, his dad and I could not convince him otherwise!!! His reasoning was the intake, Exhaust, Valve Cover and dist all resembled Chevrolet and the dist was Delco, therefore it had to be a Chevy engine.
I gave up and found another friend!!!

RE:AMX convertible

Any one got a real good picture of Steve Schall's AMX convertible
they can send me? We are using it for the NAMDRA AMC Nationals
t-shirt for this year and all my photos are in the new house in
Nevada. I'm in Illinois getting the old house ready for auction.

I'm still here. My current 5 lb lift weight restriction limits me to pretty much nothing as far as prep work goes. Monday is another appt. I'm hoping to get some timeline news updates then. I can't get the kids to do anything because they are tied up from now untill school starts.
The 1/4 glass is here and so is the back window. I can probably go ahead and fix you up with drivers door glass. I'd like to keep it, but I don't have mathcing tinted 1/4 glass for the convertible. Windshield I want to old on to for a spare at least till the car is done.
I see a post from someone who has a trans today too!

Any plans to transfer that to Ty 1 are now scrapped, and puts me back on the hunt for the front/rear windshields, and the drivers side door glasses. Originally, I was going to part Ty 2 out to Ty 1, but can't bring myself to do that to an original Typhoon, as there were so few of them in the first place. Photos of Ty 1 are available, if anyone's interested in seeing how the project is going. I started hanging the suspension today, so it's in the re-assembly stage, in some areas.

I would have loved to see him as he was trying to install a Chevy part onto
that AMC after he went to the car part store and bought a part saying "Oh,
you can't find a AMC listing? Try chevy six, it's what it really is"...

I'm not knocking Kanter but be aware that they do not all the parts you'll
need to rebuild a trunnion front suspension.

Gabriel has a special order program where they will look up the specs
and make a shock to fit obsolete applications. They use the closest
fitting production shock and customize the ends. Sears Auto Centers can
order them, but any Gabriel outlet should be able to. I got shocks for
the front of my 63 Classic like that, took about six weeks for them to
come in though. They will be radial tuned gas shocks, so if you're
running bias ply tires on a resto the ride will be a bit rougher.

Well, as long as he doesn't need electrical or tune-up parts. Those are
Chevy! The water pump would be a problem, but I don't recall if the fuel
pump is close enough to fit or not. I think a Chevy fuel pump body WILL
fit, but the arm is a different shape and won't pump enough fuel, if it
will pump at all. I think someone tried this once, but that was a long
time ago!
