I have a 70 AMX that the usual headliner blues have occured. The fabric has separated from the moulded part. The fabric is in very nice condition and I would love to put it back in. Has anyone on the list done this successfully? How is the moulded part held in place? Will spray contact cement hold the fabric in place when the roof hits those high temperatures of Summer? I would however have the exhaust system redone by Mieneke or some other muffler shop. One of my Eagles ad a leaky exhausts, and with what passes for gas here in Houston, the fumes when stuck in traffic or just stopped at light would make you vomit. I actually quit driving it until I had a day off to take it to Mida's off Gessner, something like $189 for almost front to back inclucing cat converter. I think cat converters are the most worthless pieces of s*** ever put on a vehicle, but it required one, so put one back. Can't help you on the brakes, as I don't do my own brakes! On the carb, Paige's 88 Eagle neede a new carb and it is over counter at O'Reillys, it is a Tomco unit, rebuilt, and about $225 with core exchange. But what a difference. Her carb kept getting plugged up with this yellowish residue. If you look down the carb neck with flashlight, there are two small jets sticking out like a V. You might want to get a can of carb cleaner, with long red nozzle, and stick it in the pinhole openings on both, blowing them out. Those are idles, and they do get clogged and will cause a Eagle or Jeep, to stall, sometimes die, at stops, and just run crappy. Again, some of this has to do with the crappy 'designer gas' different areas of the country use. There is/was a website showing how to do this, I believe Jim (carnuck) sent to me a good whiles back. Just something with my limited knowlege of Eagles thought would toss in! My Three Eagles (whihc sounds like a 60s show) get roughly following gas mileage: 81 Eagle 151/4cylinder/4speed/floor 23-25mpg 82 Eagle 258/AT/floor 15-17mpg 88 Eagle 258/AT/floor 15-18mpg I do not know why the 88 gets a little bit better gas milage except possibly more 'highway' miles than stop and go. He said the guy across the street rented it from him and had an old car in it. Being curious I looked in the window and say the trademark AMC door handle and what looked like a Hornet front end. When time permitted I walked across the street and talked to Roger. He said the car was a 73 Gremlin and was minus the engine. He had bought a 71 Gremlin new and then had run across this a few years ago so he stuffed it in the garage. He owns and runs a repair shop and then he showed me the sign on the back wall. The place was originally a Hudson dealership that his grandfather owned. In the basement of the garage he had a 61 American that an old lady left there 25 years ago. She used to take the bus out of NYC to Pottersville in the Adirondacks and this guys grandfather stored the car for her. The bus stop was across the street and she would get the car and then drive to her camp. He said she sold the camp and stopped paying storage on the car and it still sits there. Roger then informed me that the building down the street (the only street in the Hamlet of Pottersville) was the Rambler dealership. Come to find out, the guy I was talking to about the project site has the original Rambler dealer sign in his barn. I go back across the street and ask the owner about it and he says it is still in his barn and he has no use for it. Trying not to drool I ask him if wants to part with it and he said he had "half promised" it to the son of the original Rambler dealer. Turns out that was six years ago. I think I might be getting a 3ft by 12ft lit Rambler sign!!! Roger then comes across the street and asks me if I want an old Waggy. Thinking it might have the 327 in it I inquire about the engine and it turns out to be the OHC Tornado six banger. If anyone wants the engine, let me know cause the Town is after him to clean things up and the Waggy is to be crushed. I think it paid to go to work today. I have visions of that Rambler sign inside my toy garage.
