That depends on where you are on I-75.

They were the first place I thought of, as I used to live in Rochester Hills. Unfortuantely, I live in highland and work in Dearborn.

Mazza Auto in White Lake asked me to check and see if the number on my starter happened to be MDY8101A so he could check for parts. Its already out of the vehicle, so I'll bring it there first. If they can't do anything with it, I guess I'll leave work early one day and trek to Madison.

Sometimes when you need a part you just have to suck it up and pay the
price. I have had to do it a couple of times on my orange Hornet in the
last 2 1/2 years. Some times hesitating on a part because of price you
loose your chance because there is always the chance another one will
not show up anytime soon. I won a NOS round Hornet bee emblem and chrome
Hornet emblem used on hoods of 73 Hornets For 45$ including shipping,
good luck on my parts but I had a larger amount already bid to offset
being out bid in the last minuet or so. It ternes out I won by 1.00$
over the next bidder. He E-Mailed me seeming upset he lost but said he
was glad it was going to an AMC man, eh say what? What did he think I
was going to do drill a hole in it and attach a chain and wear it around
my neck? I put the bee on my yellow Hornet and sold the chrome Hornet
emblem for 20$. A few weeks later there was just a round NOS bee for
sale on eBay. This one went for 95$ and the same guy I out bid by 1.00$
lost out on this one by 1.00$. I could only imagine what he was calling
me.

Speaking of transmissions, lately, anyone know why my Marlin does a kind of chatter when in reverse? I have to be REAL cautious when backing that car up.

Had a 1964 Tempest shipped to me last week, can't say enough nice
things about these guys. Company is Hazen Transport number is 313
292-2120. Drivers name was Bobby. He was more then willing to hang on
while I called the previous owner for a question or two, treated my car
like it was his and was super nice. If I EVER have to ship a car again
I'll be using them and asking for Bobby. Their rate from northeast Texas
was $810, DAS wanted $1250 and said they would be repeatedly loading and
unloading the car, Hazen loaded it once and kept it there till I got it.

Subject: [AMC-List] Hey, I actually won something! Now, car shipping
cost?

Hi, Guys:

For the first time in like forever, I actually WON something, and not on
Ebay. Yesterday, I won a stylin' 1962 VW Notchback, all for the cost of
a $20 raffle ticket. You can see a smallish pic of the car at
www.centralcoastvwclub.com/id237.htm (you have to scroll down) and - yes
- my name in lights!

The car is located in San Mateo, CA, and I'm in SW Michigan. My
question is, car shipping. Has anyone recently had a car shipped 2000
miles? I'm curious if with gas prices higher whether shipping costs
have increased significantly. Also, if you have a particular shipper
you're happy with, let me know! I know this has come up before, but
frankly I've not paid that much attention to the messages. Silly me.

If shipping costs are exhorbitant, I can fly out and drive back. I need
to talk more with the guy who ran the charity raffle, but the only thing
he mentioned was a "grabby" clutch. I have driven a variety of iffy
cars the 1200 miles from Colorado to Michigan, but of course this one is
like twice as far away, and I have no history with it, so I'm a little
hesitant.

- Justin

Disclaimer: I am not trying to be a jerk with this reply.

You are completely thinking in the wrong decade. It has a D27 front and what looks like a D53 rear and its really not suitable for wheeling, as the entire drivetrain would have to be replaced for me to have any confidence in it doing anything off the pavement and returning home under its own power. I'd rather break newer, common parts than the older unobtanium. I wouldn't feel comfotable wheeling a heavy rig like that on D44's, even.

I don't know what "35's" you're referring to. Dana 35's? FSJ's never used D35's. They used a D30 front from 71-73.

Thank you, Frank, for reminding me of the exact years those cars were all similar. I wasn't sure if '65 made any radical changes to the parts, or not. I have an offer from Mark, up in WV, and am giving it SERIOUS consideration. It's a pretty long haul from SW Florida to his place, but should be a nice drive.

I've replaced the timing set in Typhoon II, but still not starting. Sure will be a red letter day when I hear that engine fire! After doing some extremely minor body repair on Typhoon II, I'm gettin more and more excited about the prospect of being able to take two of them to the local cruise-ins.

Thank you, to everyone, for your input and help. Total novice here, and every ounce of information is a huge help!

Do the halogen sealed beams draw any more amperage than regular sealed
beams? I don't want to cook the wiring. Also do they become hotter than
regular sealed beams. I have plastic headlight doors in my orange Hornet
and I don't want to melt or warp them. I have never use them so these
questions may seem stupid but I had to ask.

So one has to ask, Did the 64 Typhoon have the option of a center armrest in the rear seat back??? I have all the stuff, If I can find it! Sure would make the wife happy to see some of this stuff leave! I have th eheadliner chrom bows too, if the 64 used them. I know they would need shortened and reworked to use in an American.
Anyone in between Morgantown and Florida have a torque tube mount trans for Kenny???? I've offered up my old 69 232 at no cost other then him getting it!
I've got 68 trans and converters, but I don't think I have any bellhousings and I know I don't have any lower shields,or torque tube setups. One trans I have I know slipped some, but still moved the car around. The other was in need of a rebuild when pulled and was kept for parts only.
I should be able to fix him up with most if not all accesory stuff albiet a 81 intake and exhaust is all I have to offer.

My first impression would be to stop backing it up or driving it till you have or do the pan and fluid and have the bands adjusted.
I personally would go get my dad and get him to help me as he is 75 next month and rebuilt these for years. I know that band adjustment can be very finicky and years of gunk and road trash can make it something best left to the experts.
Look for an oldtime trans shop or a Volvo dealer or repair shop and tell them its a Borg Warner and you would like to get the bands adjusted and the fluid changed. Volvo used the same basic trans for years. also someone who is comfortable rebuilding FMX trans should be able to do it properly.
I've been leary of band adjustments ever since a friend of mine tried to do one and ended up having the car towed to ahop as it wouldn't move after he did a torque wrench band adjustment! Inch pound torque wrenches don't like dirty threads and it can be a tricky propostion using the shop manual for direction.
