>From the pics it appears to be a stick shift. I know the automatics have unique starters to the 327 in the Jeep, not sure about sticks.
There was a place listing starters for Jeeps on eBay, not sure about now.
Any reputable shop should be able to rebuild that for you. Look for a small old time electric motor place.
If you get it running it looks to me like it has the wrong carb on it. IIRC the 327 should have a the larger throat two barrel on it. That looks to me like a transplant carb from a 287 Rambler. I could be wrong on the carb though.
Nice find, if you get it running and have trouble titling it, you may be able to get a title in another state and transfer it back in. Depending on your state laws, sometime that is the easiest way to get it done.

hmmm, not sure I like that idea??????????
Seconds???????????
I got a flat on the thing yesterday and had to change the tire roadside, drive it home on the spacesaver, put a new valve stem in and checked the brakes good while I had the wheel off. The rotors are toast. The outside is rusted in about a 1/3 of the way and the rear is full of pits and depressions. I think they could be turned, but it would be a stop gap repair and not worth it as there owuld be rust pits left and the next time it sat the problem would return.
Looks like new rotors and pads for this one. I wonder what the best pad would be at grinding down the rust :] I know I've seen pads inthe past that would wear the rotors as fast as the pad wore down, That's waht this one needs! we only put about 5,000 a year on it, mostly in bad weather.

A reciprocating part punched a 4x5 inch rectangular window through the
side of the engine, sorry for my vagueness. It worked too well to have
shot it.

Yes, its a manual - that's what I was referring to when I said "3 on the tree". I appreciate the tip in the carb. Perhaps someone on IFSJA can cough up some info specific to the Jeep application. As for titles, Michigan isn't so tough. You fill out the form, an officer comes to verify the VIN, then you just wait for the search to be completed (6 weeks or something) to find out if its stolen. =:O If its not, you get a new title - as if it was never missing.

The solenoid on the Delco starter that the cars used interferes with the
front axle pinion snubber bracket. I was able to hack a AMC Motorcraft
starter to fit my 1968 Gladiator; the mounting hole require modification.

I'd fix it this way. Snip out the offending connector laeving some Tail at the connectors. Replace that old time connector with a Weatherpac late model desgn connector. You can then make a short patch connector to plug in to go fromt eh weatherpac connector to the original design hsould you ever need to get one in in a hurry and throw the jumper in your tool kit or glovebox.
The weatherpac is a much better connector than the old prestolite design. A friend uses them on his Ford Motorcraft ignitions all the time as the 70's desgn connectors are prone to breakage and corrosion.

Does that mean you had to do this as a result of not being able to obtain a new Jeep starter or rebuild your old one?

The bracket and mount redesign was implemented in 1975, in order to
fit the engine package under the hood of the Pacer. Even though the
Pacer was a mid-year introduction, all 1975 models got the new
arrangement.

Yeah rub it in!
I was going to send you some pics of the ambassador, but then I remembered you are on dialup? Anyway, I'm actually begining to think someday that Ambassador will be resurrected! I put a small piece of 3/4 box tube in to tie the outer spring tower to my new tub trough replacement today. A few more smwall plates an dthe welding will be done on the passenger side!
The drivers side shoudl go much quicker now that I know what the H#!! I'm doing! Figuring out what the final plan was took as long as cutting it out and welding it in! I went thru three different ideas to arrive at this version.
I don't think it will change the weight of the front of the car much and I think it will actualy be somewhat stronger than the original design. I think I've got it where ther will still be some flex as I don't want it to tear apart at the seams arougn the repair. No trough for water and gunk to lay in either!

We sell weatherpack connectors at our retail site www.prdonline.com, you
can also link to it from the shop site www.ttdmotorsports.com. You can
also get them from summit racing and other places. I use them for
anything that I want a secure connection that might need to be
disconnected in the future, which is usually a whole bunch of stuff. Our
starter kit is an awesome deal if you are building a car or doing a
bunch of wiring, we sell them individually too. Connector corrosion and
intermittent connection issues are a thing of the past with them.

I'd fix it this way. Snip out the offending connector laeving some Tail
at the connectors. Replace that old time connector with a Weatherpac
late model desgn connector. You can then make a short patch connector to
plug in to go fromt eh weatherpac connector to the original design
hsould you ever need to get one in in a hurry and throw the jumper in
your tool kit or glovebox.
The weatherpac is a much better connector than the old prestolite
design. A friend uses them on his Ford Motorcraft ignitions all the time
as the 70's desgn connectors are prone to breakage and corrosion.
