What started out as a bunch of thunder storms rolling through the area
turned out to be scarey for people just 10-15 miles north of N.Y. City.
A tornado set down a mile north from where my wife works and tore a
couple of small towns apart, another water spout was seen on the Hudson
River near the Tappan Zee Bridge (N.Y. State Thruway Rt. 87) and another
one on Long Island Sound. Thank God for cell phones because when I found
out from a friend of my wife I called her and she was coming down the
street from the bus ok. I am glad it didn't happen where I live as my
yellow Hornet is sitting outside as I am waiting for my son to get his
Javelin out of my garage so the Hornet can go back inside. The orange
one has been inside for the last 7 months. There was a lot of property
damage but no serious injuries than God.

Incorrect!

A four-headlight system is designed to operate as follows (this is true for all manufacturers I can think of):
horizontal arrangement: two outer lamps are low/high beam and two inner lamps are high beam only--this means that on low beam operation only the two OUTER bulbs should be in use. On high beam, ALL FOUR of the lamps should be on.
Vertical arrangement: Two upper lamps are low/high beam and two lower lamps are high beam only. Two uppers on with low beam only, all four on with high beam.

In the late 80s GM played with this a bit with their really small sealed beams (think 1988-89 Silverados and 86-89 Centuries, etc), in which case the outside lamps went off with high beam and the two inner bulbs operated only.

IIRC, four headlight systems use all four lights only on dim, so
actually draw more power on dim than bright (55x4=220W; 18A@12V). When
on high beam the inboard lights (dim only) go out (60x2=120W; 10A@12V).
Of course placement of the filament in the bulb (reflector) and aiming
has a great affect on lighting.

this stuff blasted clear to the nh seacoast [~200mi], with bad -
possibly tornadic - tree damage around wendell ma and 2" hail and
funnel clouds around exeter nh. hundreds of cars have been totalled
and they're telling homeowners to check shingles for hail damage.
smaller hail was 3" thick on the ground in seabrook nh. marblehead ma
saw 90mph gusts and maybe a tornado. lightning strikes were as heavy
as 4 per second over the area.

in between here i just got rain.

I have a 1970 Javelin with the black corduroy, turtle shell, front seats.
I am looking for replacement seat covers, but all I see readily available
are the vinyl and leather. Is anyone aware of a place where I can purchase
corduroy seat covers?

Also, does anyone know if replacement seat foam is available, and where I
can get it?

Thank you
Jeff

One of the things I'd like to do is upgrade rework the fuel filter system on the American. Right now I run 5/16 pickup line to 5/16" hose to e Jeep Cherokee 80's EFI filter to 3/8" hose to Russian mate TAT3 Mercedes replacement fule pump then 3/8" steel fuel line to EFI rail with a 3/8" return. I'm happy with everythign and it works OK, but there is some significant suction for the pump to pull the fuel thru the EFI filter. I'd liek to upgrade the pickup to as large as 1/2" with a Fram cannister style free flow filter then the pump then the EFI filter. Right now I've got too many pots on the stove! I'll have about 63 hours in when I leave work at 11:30 or so Friday night too. Then the "FQ" words come into play. You know, "Family" And "Quality" time.
At least I should have my hand son my New T-5 project tomorrow! :]
I've also got a line on a S-10 Disc brake axle for what may turn out to be a good price. Got my fingers crossed on that one!
I'm Making slow and steady progress on the Ambassador too. I am getting my 13 year old involved, We struck a deal and he is scraping all the sound deadner off the inner fender wheels. A couple of more eveings and the right side will be complete! Left will go much quicker now that I have a plan.
I want to get the 15 year old started on removing the front off the flood car. I need the top off the core support form it. I wonder if it woul dbe dangerous to teach him how to use the torches! Uh, maybe not, I may let him use the sawzall, He has a little too much enjoyment of fire for torches!

Frank,
Are you sure all the side glass stayed the same for 65?
If so I can fix Kenny up with that stuff too. The 990H has a near perfect tinted and shaded rear glass in it! I will probably save it as I doubt it will ever be reproduced. It actually seems to be made like a windsheild as there is one spot about the size of a nickle with few bubbles in the shaded area. Otherwise it is perfect.
I think the small quarter windows could be let go too as I believe the converts are different. Not sure on that one though. I'd need to see it first hand to believe there are not some changes in the glass on the 65's??? I'd be glad to pass some of this stuff on to someone who needs it if it can be done.
I don't see a real chance to attack getting that car sorted out and parted out completely untill Sept, when I get a small breather in my work schedule thoguh.
I talked with the Assitant director today about these hours, he is going to try and gring up hiring a third guy again. It sure would be nice to have some free time.

All the info I have come across says the S10 kept the actual 4 3/4" pattern.
If I get one of these and it turns out to be incorrect info I'll just have the axles and discs drilled to 4 1/2". No big deal either way.

My first car was 1959 Rebel wagon. It needed rod
bearings and it was basically fix it or walk. I paid
$75, we dragged it home, I pulled the pan and had a
guy with a portable crank turner turn the rod jounals
(are those still around?). New bearings and I was good
to go. All this was done on a dusty drive way. I drove
that car for years.
Growing up if I wanted a car I had to see what car was
available in the family stable......Russ

Sent out that mail on first cars and it got me thinking, I cloned my
Tempest into a GTO back in 1988 before anyone even cared about that
stuff. Now a days you are some kind of villain for building a car the
way you want it to be if it didn't start that way. It seems to me when
the money guys get involved it's not ok to do what you want with your
own stuff. You've got Paul Zazarine (otherwise decent guy) railing
against cloning, you have Barrett Jackson running car prices into the
stratosphere, and people who won't drive their cars.... WONT FREAKING
DRIVE THEM!!! Because of what they are "worth". What's becoming of my
beloved muscle cars? I live for this stuff, and yet the landscape is
becoming very foreign to me. Don't we do this for fun, because we love
being gearheads?

Anyone have opinions about this stuff? Totally not trying to start a war
of factions, just want to know people's perspectives.

I have found that most parts pullers, and that is all
most counter people are, don't know AMC from Adam. I
had one clown looking my American up on the Audi
section of the books. If the person who owns the car
gave incorrect info, or the parts puller was one line
lower in the book, it is easy to mix up the parts.
Take out your MC and go down to a decent parts house.
Look for a greybeard behind the counter who can at
least spell AMC, and see if they are the same....Russ

Ahhh, the first car..... mine was a 65 Scout with the 152 4banger and 3
speed. Would go anywhere, just not over 50mph. My first new car was a
70 Rebel wagon, 304, auto, tan and priced at $3884. Think I paid $85 a
month for 3 years after trading the Scout in on it. Bought all my cars
from Natale American in Saratoga Springs NY. That Rebel lasted for 144k
and was sent to the rust bin in 1977 while stationed in Michigans U P.

My favorite car of all time was my 65 Ambo 990 wagon that my father had
bought new and then traded on a 68 Rebel wagon. I bought the car back
from Natale American in 1972 and my mother sold it when I went to boot
camp in '73. We never got along too well after that. My aunt had a 66
Ambo 990 wagon and I now own one identical to hers. Same colors and same
options. One of these days it will be finished.
