It also supports uncompressed .wav files, as well as ALAC lossless compression... That being said, in a fairly noisy environment like a car, you're not likely to hear any difference between an MP3 and the original, unless the MP3 has been really heavily compressed.... Anyway the sound that this audiophile likes to hear in a car, is a really nice exhaust note as the engine winds up to the redline! A small blob of plastic that costs $200 or more and lets you put stolen music innit. When the battery wears out you have to buy a whole new one. They also require an annoying power cube or USB cable (to turn an expensive laptop computer into a really expensive power cube. Also people steal them. They have the right gummy plastic that dogs like to chew to see what's inside. You're supposed to rush right out and buy the newest one when they come out, even if the one you have isn't dead yet. If you ask any questions why, you will be kicked out of the Cool Club. _______________________________________________ AMC-List mailing list AMC-List@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list or go to http://www.amc-list.com ------------------------------ Message: 6 Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2006 22:46:54 -0400 From: "Jim Boone" <fljab@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [AMC-List] PPV To: amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <BAY116-F352645FBAF7E22A7BAB12BAC7C0@xxxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed >From: Tom Jennings <tomj@xxxxxxx> >Subject: Re: [AMC-List] AMC-List Digest, Vol 5, Issue 55 >To: amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx >Message-ID: <Pine.LNX.4.64.0606281531540.17030@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> >Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; charset=US-ASCII > >On Wed, 28 Jun 2006, Jim Boone wrote: > > > I'm not sure I'm understanding you guys; Should the adjustable > > proportioning valve - aka Wildwood or whatever the brand is - be IN >ADDITION > > to the stock AMC proportioning valve? As some of you may know, we've a shuttle on the pad ready for July 1 liftoff - although I'll be surprised if it isn't cancelled a day or few for weather. Anyway, had a sequence to work on the structure, so have several checkpoints to go through wherre they check badges and other stuff. At the last one, the guy notices my First Coast AMC hat I always wear and starts telling me about a couple of humpster Javelins he's about to get from his uncle. I guess one is wrecked, but other is buildable with parts from the first. He then tells me that there's an "Old Ambassador Wagon" that's been sitting on the other side of the fence from his back yard for some 20 yrs. Now, "Old" is relative if you know what I mean, and to me I think of pre-'66. I have that '67 Rebel Wagon that I need odds and ends for, so an Ambo wagon parts car '67-'73 or more would be just the ticket. He thinks it is a '67-up car, but is gonna check and basically find out more. I could just get lucky, or it could be wrong yr, and total piece of crap, but, ya just never know! I'll follow up on this after launch. Early GEN-2 engines still used the Borg Warner auto trans. Those have a separate bell housing, not cast as part of the trans body. So it is simple enough to get a GEN-2 bell and bolt a GEN-1 style trans to it, or just get the tailshaft housing from a GEN-1 type trans -- the output shafts are the same, just the housing is different. The engine mounts are in the correct location IIRC. One might have to drill new holes for the mounts, but that's about it. I have always understood that there is a *possibility* that 290s were substituted for 287s near the end of the 66 model run, but have never seen any proof. The VIN on the 66 Ambo would tell if it came with a 290 or 287. But in all honesty, it's likely a later transplant. The 343 didn't appear until 1967, only the 290 was used in 66, and no 290s in Ambassadors, at least not in 67 (I don't think the Ambo ever got a 290 or 304). If this were a 66 Classic or Marlin, then there is a *possibility* it is the factory engine. The 327 remained in production for at least another year (through 1967) since orders were coming in from Kaiser Jeep and Gray Marine. ---- original message -------------------------- Date: Wednesday, June 28, 2006 12:08 PM From: Wayne E LaMothe <superglider@xxxxxxxx> I have seen some information that late 66 model year cars came with the Gen 2 engines. Given the changes necessary to do that I doubt it would have happened until the full model year update for the 67 line and the elimination of the closed driveline. Yet I see a 66 Ambo on EvilBay with a Gen 2 engine and have heard of 66 Marlins with the 290 (supposedly the last 200 made). I always attributed it to somebody not familiar with AMC's mistaking what they had. Anybody have the official word? To add even more confusion is the fact that AMC supplied the GEN1 327 to Jeep through the 68 model year so they either used up old engines and kept the GEN1 in production for 2 years after they dropped it from their own model line. ------------------------------ Message: 9 Date: Wed, 28 Jun 2006 23:08:21 -0500 From: "Eddie Stakes" <eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [AMC-List] I Pod, Pee Pod, Zee Pod, X Pod. Personally, I would go with an AW4/NP208C (with the Jeep NP208 output shaft) combo for the shortest setup (I have both along with the adapter ring for sale) without an axle swap, but I also have a 999 (from an Eagle 4.2L) which will bolt directly up to the NP208J I have, and a 727 from an FSJ ('81 Cherokee 6 cyl that lost a rod) I have a 904 from a 4 cyl fuel injected XJ (core) along with the flexplate (it'll also bolt up to the NP208J. Yes, I did test fit them! <G>) I'm going to be posting all the excess stuff I have for sale soon as I want to close out my storage locker (and not pay storage anymore) so I will be posting a ton or two of parts over the next while. (I have a storage locker that had my J10 in it along with a lot of this stuff and once my 18' cube van is emptied out it'll be full one more time and even the van will be for sale! (the plan is to pay off my cabin in less than 5 years and make it livable at the same time so we don't have to pay rent while building a new house) I'm cc'ing almost all the lists I'm on to get them on notice of the impending sale. (Wish I could go to the Monroe, WA swap meet with the van loaded and sell it all at once!) Evilbay will be getting a ton of stuff posted soon too. I thought Tom Jennings was the most colorful and right to the point. I guess my Hornet will not be cool without one then? That is just somthing I will have to live with. When I did my Hornets interior I used regular Dynamat in the roof since the headliner was out and the floors with the extreme on the exhaust side of the floor and the regular Dynamat on the rest of the floor. The shop owner where I did the work was trying to get me to have a fancy stereo installed, you know one with the big speakers and some box with amps. He said with the dynamat already in the car I would be all set. I put the Dynamat in to eliminate heat and road noise not to blow out the windows of the car with a mega watt stereo. Besides I am half deaf from working around jet planes in my Navy days and after I got out of the Navy for a few years. Many aftermarket replacement strikers have a head for an allen wrench. If the replacement ones you received don't have a place in the head for any kind of tool, you may have gotten some for 72 and earlier. These will have two flat spots in the big washer for a wrench, and the washer doesn't move. It's cast as part of the assembly. These won't fit your car. The threads are a different size.
