I finally got to see how good the auxiliary cooling fan worked yesterday
while waiting for almost 25 minutes in line at the drive in bank window
with the car running and the A/C on. Since I still don't have the
thermostat it is wired to a terminal that becomes hot when the ignition
is turned on. The car ran amazingly cool only slightly warmer than
normal and let me tell you it was very hot and humid. The sun was going
in and out all day so at 11:30 am I decided to see about installing the
tinted AMC letters on the windshield while parked in the street in front
of the house. I was only going to do a couple but 4 1/2 hours later they
were all on. It took a fair amount of time to get the spacing of the
letters right. Also my arms hurt so bad from the installation and my
arthritis that I had to take some pain killers and rub Aspercream on
both my arms. But it was worth it as I got the desired effect. The top 4
inches of the windshield is factory tinted and the letters are in the
factory tint and just show up very slightly. I achieved the subtle look
I wanted. Due to the spacing of the words American Motors across the
windshield there is a 5" gap between the American and Motors. Today to
make this look more even I will make a rectangular R/W/B style AMC
emblem out of tint and install it there. But not today as it is !@^&
raining again!!!!! After I finished the lettering job I stopped by to
see the guy about removing the bumper and putting the last 2 screws in
the fan and oil cooler. I explained how I wanted it done and he told me
he had a better idea at which I told him it would not work and no matter
what the bumper had to be removed. The bumper has been off to replace
the rubber filler a few months back and the bolts were not rusted tight
and when replaced they had anti-seize applied to the studs, so bumper
removal is just a matter of removing 8 bolts. After looking under the
car he realized I was right. I have only been working on my other 74
Hornet for 33 years since it was new. Since I am paying for the work I
expect it to be done my way. So he said it was my way or the highway? at
which I replied no my way period!!!! He wanted to know when I wanted it
done. I told him I would get back to him on when I wanted it done. I
think I will just wait till my friends shop slows down and let him do it
all when I get the thermostat for the fan, wire up the on off on switch,
deep tranny oil pan, billet aluminum over flow tank and a grease job and
oil change. I was just anxious to get the grill back in but I will just
have to wait. If the rain stops I will re-stripe the black double
factory pin stripe some time this week that is worn off in spots from
some idiot in the past with a buffer.
