It's just like a four on the floor, only sideways! Reverse is toward the dash and down so you don't try to shift into fifth, IIRC. First is pluu toward wheel and up, second down, then no pressure on stalk and up is third, down fourth. You have to push toward the dash to get reverse. ------------> I do believe you are right about reverse there, Frank. Also, after reading a couple of these posts, I remembered that the car was a 190. It was strange because it had only one rear door, on the passenger side. I guess that was the taxi version. Very gutless, incredibly so(especially in the mountains of northern Arizona). The linkage used to have a tendency to jam between third and fourth. One time I couldn't get it unjammed, but the tranny was still in third, so I flogged it back to the owner's yard in third, about 20 miles uphill and down, and he charged me two days' fares to fix it. Anyway, I just thought one of these columns might be a possibility for the towing car project mentioned here, just in case all reason is abandoned with the TF 727(a la AMC mentality). /;] Seriously, the TF is the only thing I would consider besides a TH400 for any kind of towing in a non-Jeep AMC. Not as much control as a manual, but both seriously bulletproof transmissions when set up properly. The 700R4 is pretty strong, but tricky to keep running properly. I would definitely stay away from any of the T-5's or T-10's. Towing has a way of catching you with your pants down at the wrong time. mike __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
