I think the Jeep tailhousing will be too short to work for adapting to a torque tube. You will likely end up a good foot shorter than the torque tube tranny! The S-10 T-5 housing and shifter would work for shifter placement to keep the bench seat. Also the unobtainable 2wd AMC tailhousing is farther forward than the Ford units. I've heard runours of a Chevette T-5 that is a match for the AMC tailhousing. I've got the AMC based trans in my American now and think it would barely clear a bench. Search out T-5 swaps into early Chevy trucks there is a website, maybe inliners.com or org, that has an excellent writeup on swapping T-5 gears and shifter/tailshaft housings. If anyone has an AMC T-5 core I'd like to get one to build mine from, so keep me in mind. -- Mark Price markprice242ATadelphia.net Morgantown, WV ---- Sandwich Maker <adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > s-10 t5s are much the same as jeep ones, even use the same internals > some years -- but you don't need the whole tranny, just the tailshaft > housing. put it on a 'stang t5 for a fwd shifter loc, that's what the > rodders do. you might want the s-10 front bearing retainer too; amc > t5s [and their bells] have the smaller gm diameter, not the slightly > larger ford size, and it might save you some machine work. > > if you want to keep your torque tube, you might be able to fab > something using a jeep t5 t/c adapter and a custom block adapting the > tt to the t/c pattern. dunno if you'd be stuck for a speedo drive > though; i think jeeps drive it from the t/c. > ________________________________________________________________________ > Andrew Hay the genius nature > internet rambler is to see what all have seen > adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and think what none thought > _______________________________________________ > AMC-List mailing list > AMC-List@xxxxxxxxxxxx > http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list > > or go to http://www.amc-list.com _______________________________________________ AMC-List mailing list AMC-List@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.amc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/amc-list or go to http://www.amc-list.com
