I was working on the 64 Classic but had some bad luck in the last couple of days. The short story is that someone has transplanted a 232 six into the car in front of the T-96 tranny. The shift linkage was toast so I replaced the steering column and shifter. Got the car running and it at first ran well but I did not try to drive it. A few days later, after sitting I restarted it and it had no oil circulation to the head and the dry valves clattered. I connected a mechanical oil pressure gauge to the engine and it had 50 pounds of oil pressure with the oil cold, but still no oil to the head. Then later it had good circulation to the head again. Something is periodically blocking circulation to the head. Yes, I pulled the shaft rocker bolt and the suspect head bolt and tried to clean out the passage. I also used engine flush. I thought I would try to move the car without letting it run too long (dry valves) and there is a terrible racket when I depress the clutch. So there are two (possibly connected) problems which need further investigation. In short, I will pull the engine and tranny and check everything out before proceeding further. However, I have a 196 engine ready to go in the car and a good (I think.) T-96 with O/D. I need a flywheel for the 196. This engine had an auto tranny behind it in a previous life so it has a flexplate now. Does anyone have a 196 flywheel they will part with? This will hopefully be a project for this summer, as I need to shift my attention to another car right now. Maybe not so short after all, huh?
