Only nine quarts? Drive the car around the block then check the fluid level again. It's probably still a few quarts low -- it should hold 12-15 quarts from bone dry. You followed the procedure correctly, but you have to check the level after that and add as necessary. Did you change the torque converter or still using the old one? I hope you at least got a remnaufactured conveter, otherwise you might have problems later as the contaminated fluid still in the old converter (there's no way to get it all out short of rebuilding) finds its way into the trans. It will take a while, just shortens trans life. But you are likely hearing the pump with the transmission still 2-5 quarts low on fluid.
