We do it everyday!' As for your car, you are a 'restorer'. As such, you don't need the 'over-restored' work they do, where they make the car far more straight and smooth than it ever was when new. You will easily find someone to properly RESTORE your car's finish for the $3000-$5000 mentioned, and the $3000 is likely very doable. Make the rounds, talk to show car owners, and try to find the guy who's willing to take it as a side job on HIS schedule...'when he can get to it between other work'. The more flexible you are, the lower the price you can get. You'll also save big by removing all the trim parts yourself. Less for them to remove, work around and/or mask off....all labor. NAPA recently dumped about 1/2 of what we had and we no longer have catalogs for the leftovers. (the young punks throw away the "old and useless" books because some of the parts are no longer available, but they were the only way we could find what was still on the spinning tree!) Beck Arnley has gone away and will be replaced with Alltrom parts. Plug the hose. Connect another length of hose to the steering box and run it to the catch basin. Refill the reservoir and crank up the car. Let it idle and have someone turn the steering wheel a little side to side. Watch the reservoir and don't let it get low enough to suck air. A quart or two of fluid later and you should have good clean fluid dumping in the catch basin. He mentioned that he'd put together some of the albums and was surprised by the demand. He mentioned that he'd liked to have done another before he retired, but there was no funding. Three "Rambler" albums ('61, '62, '63) and two as "AMC" ('69 and '76) completed the run. In this "Antiques Road Show" era of "How much is it worth?" All vinyl top trim intact. There is a 49-early fifties Nash Airflyte four door sedan in the stock lot. Looks to be in good shape and not too rusty. All American/European Auto Wreckers (Moss Landing) has a 1983 Eagle D/L wagon. White/brown. 258/auto. Pretty complete. Yesterday I dropped the oil pan a few inches. I could not drop it all the way in spite of the fact that it looked like I had room before I loosened the bolts. The crossmember was in the way. I knew I would have to drop the crossmember on an American, but I thought the Classic with the modified motor mounts would have enough room. Did not want to hassle with the front springs, so I did not drop the crossmember. Anyway, I was able to see into the oil pan space and feel around in there with a magnet. I found nothing loose and no metal shavings in the pan. So I buttoned it back up. Today I worked on top of the engine. Pulled the head bolt which runs into the oil passage for the rocker shaft. I turned the engine over with no ignition while that head bolt was out to hopefully allow oil pressure to flush the passage. I felt around in the head bolt "socket" and I think I found the oil passage with a stiff wire. There was no obvious debris on the wire when I pulled it out. The valve train overall looks pretty clean, not all sludgy. I put the bolt back and torqued all of the bolts. Then changed the oil and filter and installed a mechanical oil pressure gauge (from Napa). I started the car and had 55 pounds of oil pressure at fast idle with cold oil and no lifter noise even from the start. The valve cover was off so I could see that I had oil supply to all of the rockers. I added one quart of engine flush to the oil and let it idle until it got good at hot. Hot idle oil pressure held at about 22 pounds which is excellent in my mind. So now I'll begin cleaning up the engine bay and correcting other squawks on the car including: Emergency brake cable is frozen (I have a spare). Heater core is bypassed (probably leaking) Steering wheel/horn assembly has been jury rigged. Shifter linkage is connected now, but I still need the correct clips. The shafts on the shift rods are not drilled for cotter keys so I used hairpins but they seem too tight. Would like to find the correct clips. He owns 4 full-sized Gremlins, but lost storage, and had to part with a few parts cars, still has 4 Gremlins, though. A decent 74 X ( under cover, gold ), and an orange one. Anyway, I could use some pictures of the mounting tabs/brackets on the Gremlin go-kart chassis, as I got a "virgin" body that has never been mounted before, supposedly this body was in a museum of sorts. Has no holes anywhere along the bottom I saw for mounting. All the stickers are intact, and has a rear sticker that says F.W. Associates, Mansfield, OH. I presume that was the maker of the body? Or reseller? Anyway, will have some pictures soon. Does have a few cracked areas, the lower right rocker panel has broken off ( I have the pieces from the guy), also a chunk behind the right front wheel along the rocker. Otherwise, a few small cracks, but nice shape, needs buffing, some oxidation on top. Would like some "official" measurements as to the dimensional mounting points, I assume 4-point mounting. Would like that diagramed out for me if possible, when someone with a Gremlin kart gets some time. Also, this guy claims that you could get a rear roof spoiler for this cart, I'd never heard of that, anyone know about that? Well, that's all, tired from that 500 mile round-trip to pick up the body. I got it squeezed, barely, into my Jeep Cherokee. Good thing there was no chassis, or it might have had to travel on top! Bad news, that.
