" The attachemnt was "scrubbed", but the new system puts up a link you
" can click to see it! The message stated you're looking for a source
" for frint springs. The source I always use is www.coilspings.com
" (Coil Spring Specialties in Kansas). Since this is for an early to
" mid 60s car, I suggest you order springs 10-15% stiffer than stock.
" That's about what factory heavy duty springs would have been. CSS
" only makes progressive coils now, not "straight" compression rate.
" The progressives ride much better -- a little soft initially but
" stiffen at an increasing rate as they are compressed. They will work
" out the rate you need based on the original "straight" rate. They
" have charts showing factory rates from way back.

if they have the factory charts, why not just order factory hd
replacements?

i have to second going with hd. i put factory hd in my '67 marlin
along with twin-tube ['low pressure'] gas shocks, and the ride was
great - nicely firm, neither mushy or harsh.

" The drums should be available from regular auto parts stores. If no luck
" at AutoZone, etc., try NAPA. Second place to try are some of the AMC
" vendors such as Galvin's (www.ramblerparts.com) or APP
" (www.amclives.com). Kanter (www.kanter.com) may have them also. If not
" listed on Kanter's site call -- they have many items not on the website.

my old napa book shows them as the std. 10" drums on all amcs '68-'73
at least. they may cover earlier, but in '73 they started using a new
rear drum that was used up to '89 in cherokees and wranglers. these
fronts were used up to '75-6, finally replaced with disks.

" I wouldn't be surprised at all if the drums interchange with some Ford
" models. Ford used a lot of Bendix brakes also. I'm not sure about the
" Chryslers. If there is an interchange the drum manufacturing companies
" usually know and mark their part numbers accordingly. The offset of the
" drum to the hub and the way it meets the backing plate would be the only
" differences if the bolt pattern, width, and inside diameter matches.

i couldn't find any ford or mopar crosses.

AMC related as many of us still drive AMC's daily, at least in this household! Thanks to Steve Fox who sent this link, I tried it several times and was amazed by it's accuracy on the maps of stations near where I live. However, while it is updated every evening, some of these gas station owners have built a hut next to the price signs since they seem to be living next to the signs in the past few months. Also, whoever makes the number 3 for those signs has probably raked in more profits than Exxon. Not sure how long this link will stay up but the price at the Citgo at Wilcrest and I-10 is always the cheapest, especially if you pay cash.

More AMC related, not driving Bessie the 72 Ambassador SST wagon as much as I was, now mostly driving the Eagle wagons, eespecially the four cylinder, four speed which is getting about 23mpg.

This link appears to work!

 http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx?zip=&src=Netx

      This is pretty nifty.
Just enter your zip code in the site below, and it tells you which gas stations have the cheapest prices (and the highest) on gas in your zip code area. It's updated every evening.

Some weeks seem like repeats, when world carmakers reap profits (Toyota, Honda, Nissan, now Mazda, and even formerly weak-performing Volkswagen), while American carmakers scramble just to survive (DaimlerChrysler lost money making Mercedes-Benzes, made less than 1% making Mopars, and made many remember AMC), the curious want to ask questions but don't want to suffer answers, and the clueless want the "high" gas prices to be fixed by the "high" politicians. "Oh help us, ye 'honorable' elected hacks!"

http://tinyurl.com/jzh5n

It's time to get a clue.

Politicians can only fix elections; people choose what, where, when, how often, and how fast they drive, worldwide demand determines how much oil the people can consume or conserve, and it's OK for the entertainers and athletes to make unconscionable millions, but it's not OK for the moguls and managers to be ludicrously overpaid. It's fun to buff up AMC grillz [sic] but it's foolish to buff up on AMC history and it's downright dumb to value non-AMC automotive smartz [sic].

Please give us a [brake] break.

It's like doing the same thing over and over again that didn't work the first (or fifteenth) time it was done: if it doesn't work the hundredth time, kick it, curse, and have another beer.

Buffy may need new teeth now.

Vamp up that tired AMC gear.

Headgear is a cool tool.

Call it cheese or tam.

Wear it with pride.

Put it to use.

It's right.

A look at Lucerne by a VIP ("very important publication" or "very inept proofreader") last night proved that AMC isn't the only automotive pub where there might be too much drinking and too little thinking (a joke) these days. The author of that piece probably doesn't drape his cargo pants halfway down his Anime-figure boxer shorts, doesn't buy Nine Inch Nails at Home Depot, and doesn't wonder if Trent Renzor was replaced by Schick Quattro (all the greybeards are now saying, "Huh?"), but he did blithely, bald-facedly, and idiotically write, "Buick hasn't put a V-8 in a passenger car since 1995."

Hello? So Buick bought boxes of "Collector Edition" wheel centers and hood ornament medallions (not to mention cloisonn?-on-leather key fobs in velvet bags) in 1996 for nothing --- and no LT-1s mastered the road?

He then wrote that Buick's portholes were derived from Duesenbergs (he likes the new square holes better than the ovoid of old), but Lucerne's window detail was Detroit at its worst. The General should be ashamed, he said, to do such shabby work.

Hello? I saw a Lucerne in a parking lot this morning. It looks like a Passat by Toyota. Like a BMW by Subaru. Like a copy car that GM did rather well.

He's the expert. People pay him big bucks. They make time to read his stuff. Maybe he should take up writing about American Motors. He'd be sure to review a Donahue. Rock on.

I need to get rid of the 304 in my javelin because i'm putting a 360 in.
it's still in the car. just started it up since it sat all winter and it
runs great. no weird noises or smoke. According to the valve cover tag it is
a 79 motor. now that I have a cherry picker it can go. I rebuilt the carb
last fall - motorcraft 2 barrel. I will sell complete with all accesories.
drop in and go. $300 located in Fenton, MI I also have the TF998 that will
come out with it. shifts fine. I'm probably going to end up using the 727 I
have laying around. $400 for engine and tranny. $125 for just the tranny.

For Sale: 1970 Javelin 304/auto. California desert car. Has been sitting
for many years. Big Bad Orange base level (non SST) tan interior. Missing
some parts but body is rust free and would be fairly easy to rebuild. Needs
grille, front bumper, interior and power train redone, but sure beats fixing
a rusty car. No price yet, but email me and I will provide pictures in a few
