I'm considering bringing my '68 Ambassador to the Walter P. Chrysler show in Elmhurst, IL. next Sunday. It's no award-winner or 10-point restoration, but it's been rebuilt and restored to good condition...and it's spring, and I'd like to start hitting a show or two in the Chicagoland area. I know that Chrysler corporate was no friend (to put it mildly) to AMC'ers in the way they handled the takeover of AMC and the closing of the Kenosha plant. The 3 large buildings stayed reasonably full, and had lots of business ( I spent 3/4 of my money in just the first building I came to, after seeing only half of it. LOL. ) Looked for parts, not as much luck , but found a few gems. Here's my finds breakdown of parts and pictures. - (2) Hornet gas caps, one stainless, one cast pot metal non-locking, both nice shape - (1) 390 fender emblem, not sure what year. - envelope of pictures of AMC concept vehicles in '78, the mini van, Concept I, Concept II, the Jeep concept, and another. 11 x 14 size? - AMX / GT magazine pictures, shots I hadn't seen before, with different angles, 3 different pics, 2 color, 1 b&w, all small - about 20 B & W OEM sales pictures of Ramblers from 63-69, with attached AMC file paper. $1 each. Some wagons, Rebel, American, Ambassador, Classic. Also some pics of the Twin-stick, 390 motor cut-away view, with AMC file paper attached. - AMC postcards, 2 Matador Coupe, 2 Gremlin - Stock Car racing magazines, 1 with Penske Matador article, another with Hybrid Hornet ( AMC ) heads article, Kanner related. - 4 dealership reference books, thin, technical. - 8 x 10 B & W auto expo photo with the AMC AMX Vignale concept car on a rotating stage, and a Marlin and Ambassador around it. - Mark Donohue (inset photo) with a Penske Matador #16 on 8 x 10 glossy color picture, "signed". press release, I guess. That pretty much made up the inside acquisitions, we ate about 12 noon, went back to building shopping for another 2 hours, then we tried to walk the grounds, but it started pouring down again soon as we got outside....Grrr! We walked a few rows, looked at a few vendors under cover, we found a '64 Rambler Wagon for sale, $4,400 price. Found a few AMC hubcaps scattered here and there. After a friend's purchase of a come-along, we wearily decided to trudge across the field to the exit, hitting any vendor(s) left on the way. Got near the gate, found another book vendor, stopped in there. I found a Standard Catalog of Independents for $8, told my friends about it, that it was a great price, and that I'd give them first shot at it, but I was buying it if they didn't. One did. :) We headed out the gate, then, got to our cars and headed for somewhere with some HOT coffee. Found a dunkin' Donut store, we warmed up some, exchanged some items we'd brought for each other, then started the dreary trip home again. Overall, it was a great day, from a literature/picture standpoint, as I got some great photos, the AMX/GT and Concept shots were wonderful finds. I'm happy with all my finds. The Hornet gas caps and 390 fender emblem were nice , too. Only parts I bought all day, except for my wife's birthday present. Heh heh! Too bad it was so nasty, but I feel the trip itself for the stuff I got was worth it, and a chance to see friends who live 4 hours away I don't see often. I'll have to get my pictures put away in protected sleeves for now. Maybe one day I'll get my new building set up for showing them all off. :) Jerry in Virginia __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! NOTE: I have been informed that Hotmail is owned by Microsoft? All hotmail account holders don't seem to be affected, we have several still receiving mail. Apparently hotmail has only blocked those who asked (if any did) -- we may have cut those off before hotmail took any action. I have edited the message below to delete references to hotmail. Remember those people who complained loudly when the list changed servers, the ones that forgot they had ever subscribed? It seems that 3-4 days of getting the relatively few mail messages (no more than 30 in one day, and most of those were messages they generated with "get me off" messages sent to the list) was to much for them. A few apparently complained to AOL and Yahoo before Tom and I could delete them. Both AOL and Yahoo have a heavy handed way of dealing with complaints -- they block the server. The result is because of a few complaints no one using those mail systems can get list mail. Several members with AOL and Yahoo addresses have recently complained about not being able to post mail either through e-mail or the web site. The reason is AOL and Yahoo is blocking the site. Tom and I have sent explanations to AOL and Yahoo. Both sent us forms to fill out to allow mail to go through. The Yahoo form will be sent in shortly, and might go through. AOL has told us to "resubmit in 30 days". This is likely so they can monitor traffic from the list server. If you are with AOL or Yahoo DO NOT resubscribe at this time with an AOL or Yahoo account. The server will try to send you a confirmation message four times then unsubscribe you after it bounces four times. These four tries might be seen as continuing spam attempts by AOL or Yahoo. What you CAN do is report the problem of not being able te receive mail or sign up to the list to AOL/Yahoo. If enough users complain (provided any see this!) they should relent and let the messages through. In the meantime, try another e-mnail account such as a free g-mail account or another ISP. This may be a good time to consider a "real" ISP instead of a captive system. Other ISPs would allow individual users to block mail or just block the address for the complaining user. I'll repeat this message every few days to give more people the opportunity to read it on the web site since it's not going out to AOL/Yahoo account holders. The car has been sitting for a long time in the desert sunshine. The paint is faded, parts are missing, but it has a very sound body with no structural rust. 304/auto, manual drum brakes, manual steering. Missing radiator, fan, carb (the engine is probably full of sand). All soft interior parts will need to be replaced/restored. No steering wheel or console/shifter. Needs a winshield and driver's side door glass. Needs some body work due to dents. Grill broken. Front bumper mangled. I had to bring my own tires and wheels since it had been sitting on the hubs. Makes me wonder what wheels were on it (probably magnum 500s). It's not an SST, and has the brushed aluminum dash cover which should clean up well. The last sticker on the license plate said 1974, but some stickers could have been peeled off. It is an early production car with a body number less than 3,000. It's date of manf. was August 1969. I did not take my camera this weekend but will have pictures in a few weeks. The car will be for sale since I already have enough projects. The car sounds like it is in pretty bad shape in the first paragraph right? If you have ever wrestled with saving a rusty car, you would be delighted with this one. I don't ususally hype my cars, but this car really has potential. If you are interested, just email me and I will send pics when I next get to my storage building. So our founding President decided to start his own gathering. Unfortunately he could not keep it going as he has to relocate, but I became President and held meetings and gatherings for almost 4 years before handing off the gavel to another AMC enthusiast. Our Club is small but we have a good time. We have been in Mopar shows and find the reception from the crowd is good. Would we ever become part of the big club again? I think not. AOL has blocked all mail from my server; they make smallish servers like mine meet a higher, near-impossible standard. No spam or virus has ever issued from here. When we moved the list there were a number of defunct AOL email addresses (people who had signed up then disappeared) and they blocked us. (The complainers didn't help.) It's part of a larger corporate takeover of the internet; Verizon, AOL and others are talking openly about charging sites to deliver bits into "their" customers (eg. you). We're too small to do that, so it will kill off small sites and force them to move websites, mailing lists, etc to the larger service providers, like (surprise!) AOL, which is the real intent; hey, nothing personal, just profiteering. Think I sound crazy? Wait five years and ask again. The internet is completely unregulated, and this is the obvious result. ------------------------------ Message: 13 Date: Sun, 23 Apr 2006 14:54:38 -0400 (EDT) From: adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Sandwich Maker) Subject: Re: [AMC-List] V8 Gremlin axle setup for sale To: cadipacer@xxxxxxxxxxxxx, mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <200604231854.k3NIscR10434@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> " From: "Eddie Stakes" <eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> " Cc: cadipacer@xxxxxxxxxxxxx " " SALE; V8 Gremlin Axle assy set up for coil springs for use in the 58-66 " Classics, " [] " this is a extra unit I had made when I installed the 401 in the 62 " Classic.. been in my car for 11 years, works good. 502-964-4328 aft 5 phil " amin cadipacer@xxxxxxxxxxxxx " ====================================== not in the market, just curious - how good a width match was it to the original? ________________________________________________________________________ Andrew Hay the genius nature internet rambler is to see what all have seen adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and think what none thought ------------------------------ Message: 14 Date: Sun, 23 Apr 2006 14:56:15 -0400 (EDT) From: adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Sandwich Maker) Subject: Re: [AMC-List] 77 AMX leaf springs wanted To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx, vegadan@xxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <200604231856.k3NIuFx10458@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> " From: "Eddie Stakes" <eddiestakes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> " " I am looking for a good pair of 4-leaf leaf springs for my 77 amx hornet.
