They are 1:24 scale or so, Black with a turquoise interior , roof rack and rear spoiler and turnable front wheel, opening doors and hood $9.97!!!! I took the 3 on the shelf . There was a couple of the Pinto there also. These seem to be the only 2 of the series out with promises of more in different colors. Not up to ERTLE standards but not bad for the 10 bucks each. To: amc-list@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <20060416211302.31478.qmail@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Hi, was just wondering if AMC ever put out a huge numerical parts list by number, THEN by description. Probably for their internal inventory, but thought that would be a huge savings in time to look up parts and descriptions, if you have a by-the-number book. I have several Collision parts guides, but that's only good if you know what the part is, and what year it fits. Just curious if anyone out there in AMC-land has seen such a listing. I have several Collision parts guides, but that's only good if you know what the part is, and what year it fits. Just curious if anyone out there in AMC-land has seen such a listing. The only thing I can think of are the AMC Parts Price Books. These list the part numbers in order and give a short description. The description is really short and will only tell you what the part is usually not what it fits. It also tells if a part has been superseded with another part number. I have never sen exactly what you are looking for. By the way on the subject is there any rhyme or reason to the AMC parts numbering system? Is there a way to tell what a part is by the part number? Or were they just assigned in sequence? Bill Strobel Independent Towing Fayetteville NC __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! (I keep forgetting to measure the width and check the ratio when I get to it in my storage) I also have an FSJ narrow trac (but still wider than the CJ one) Model 20 with 3.31 or 2.72 gears for $50 (complete with brakes last I checked) Dana 35, aka Model 15 from an XJ with 3.73 gears $50 (needs a pinion seal) and one piece axles. Non-c-clip style. AMC Eagle D30 front axle (non-vacuum) 3.08 ratio $75 obo (I bought it for $100 for my then project Eagle wagon and it's just sat around since I had to give up on it) Chev D44 SOA housing w/o gears (I have the axle shafts someplace) $50. Had the mate to it bolted into my '84 J10 to set up my high steering. Gave me 7" of instant front lift! ( http://www.virtualjeep.com has a small pic of it) I'm looking for an XJ or MJ Model 20 rear diff (complete with axles and preferrably 3.73 gears, which only the 4 cyl 4 speeds came with AFAIK) to put in my COmanche. Most go with a Ford 8.8", but those are power and clearance robbers (I can brace the Model 20 easily enough with a skid plate built in) My wife also wants me to go through the 47 various driveshafts I have and thin the herd too! <G> (I just don't know which 6 I need to keep for my MJ and 2 FSJ projects or which 2 for my son's 4 cyl Comanche 4x4 conversion because none of the drivetrains are stock) I'll be going through my gas tank collection as well (my J10 won't need one as it is going pure propane with the stroker motor) Jim Blair, Seattle, WA '84 J10 Black Jack (getting lifted and stroked!), '73 J4000 304/TH400/QT tow truck http://www.virtualjeep.com AMC list subscription options link http://www.amxfiles.com/amc-list/options.cfm _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! The proper distributor for your car has points so it is a later conversion. Using data which I find to be typical an additional 28 degrees advance is a bit large for just hooking up the vacuum. But then again that distributor is probably designed to use ported vacuum rather than intake manifold vacuum. One of the differences would be that vacuum at idle would be about zero (0) thus when hooked up would not show much of an increase at all depending on what your idle speed is at the time that you measure it. So my first guess is you are using intake manifold vacuum for your vacuum source. In general, the distributor that probably came with your car would have been set for 5 degrees advance at idle with a total of about 23 degrees mechanical advance at somewhere around 3000 rpm plus an additional maximum of 6-8 degrees available from the vacuum but once again it would have been ported which depending on rpm can be significantly lower than intake manifold vacuum. With the advent of smog requirements things got a bit tricky and in many cases poorly controlled until computers became available. Part of the data that you are looking for is probably printed in the electrical and/or emissions control section of the TSM for the same year that your distributor is. Welcome back guys. Thanks Joe. I guess I'd been lurking for awhile. I guess it's time for a project update? Rescued 69 American wagon: This one was parked for years due to a rear bearing turning to dust because some mechanic seems to have put it back together without any shims to set the axle end play. After learning how to rebuild an amc rear and redoing all the brakes I test drove it several times. That went well, so I decided to fill the gas tank up because I was expecting to drive it regularly now. Filling the tank up revealed a gas leak and also knocked an incredible amount of rust loose from the previously exposed metal tank insides that quickly clogged the fuel line. So that car got sidelined until recently when I used up the other half of a POR-15 brand tank sealer kit that I originally got to do the tank on my 65 2 or so years ago. It seems to have a good shelf life if you reseal the can good like I did with duct tape, so I say you can do two tanks with one kit. The leak was actually from the filler hose, some sharp object had punctured it. It is a long special hose so I replaced it with a standard 45 degree bend filler hose and a standard 90 degree bend filler hose and a 2" pvc coupling. (?#1)My online research shows PVC being resistant to gasoline and ethanol but if anyone has better info let me know. Next on this car is to rebuild the suspension and then it will drive great but still be ugly. 65 2dr American I finally figured out my front brake grabbing problem is that the pair of nicely turned front drums I got from a junkyard car were turned off center. Anyone in LA have a pair of 9x2-1/2 drums? (?#2)Anyone know how to remove the hubs and transfer them to new drums? I can get new drums at autozone but I suspect I'll have to somehow swap the "integral" hubs. I also put in a FENCO brand remanufactured master from autozone which is actually sleeved, and you can see the sleeve through the reservoir ports. Canadian company. Seems to work well so far. The Cardone brand has been bad luck for me in the past. Future project: I'm investigating a Rambler American w/232 AT that is down due to a destroyed flex plate. (?#3) What is the "improved two piece design"? on southtexasamc.tripod.com what's the difference/advantage etc. with this flex plate vs. the original style which I can get locally. Sounds like there's a story there.
