side shifter, right? that should be a t-85/t-89, and afaik they were
still using it in '67 with the 290 and 343. also, the bolt pattern is
similar to the amc t-10; i don't know if it's the same but if it is
then bellhousings for it are relatively common. you can even find
them in early-'70s jeeps.

the iron warner was used with the new v8s all the way up to the '71
401. there might be crank - converter pilot issues if your 401 isn't
a '71, but converter housings and even flexplates are out there.

in general, for getting around the torque tube issue:
you could convert to an open drive with ladder bars up to the
crossmember.
you could start with a 4wd extension housing / transfer case adapter
and machine a block with the t/c pattern on one side and the tt flange
pattern on the other. it would probably have to have the tranny mount
and seal also. you'd be open to any tranny ever used in a 4x4 though.
you could use another tranny with o/d and the o/d-tt adapter from your
current 3sp. overall length probably wouldn't quite match up...

Just a quick pop in to say hi (now that things have settled down again, both
on the board and life in general since I sold my house) Finally came across
a Jeep 327/TH400 combo (My buddy bought it to put in his Jeepster in place
of the Buick 225 he has now) When he takes the stuff apart to overhaul it
before install (he wants to freshen up the motor and redo the seals), I'll
get the cast numbers off it and the flexplate as well as the crank spacer. I
picked up a Marien Parts catalog from work (NAPA) that was getting tossed.
It lists a kit for the Grey Marine 327 for overhaul
My own '73 J4000 will be having the unipattern (Buick Nailhead) TH400
removed along with the Quadratrac (only year for this combo with the adapter
ringed trans) and replaced with an AMC 727 lockup trans (slightly modded for
better shifting. Won't lockup till 55 mph now) and Mopar NP208 D tcase.
(bolts right up with 23 spline and has the correct passenger's side drop so
I don't have to change axles) I'm going to miss the 17% O/D in the QT, but
with 3.73 gears and 33" tires it should still freeway cruise okay when
locked up.
I currently have a couple projects on the go (helping someone get their
'51 Jeep CJ type pickup running after sitting since the '80s when the
starter quit and then getting their '61 Renault Fleuri aka Caravelle running
too) and a job that sucks up a lot of time (seems like I spend as much time
driving to and from work 12 miles as I spend on the job thanks to Seattle's
Eastside traffic)

   That's about it for now.

When I had my '83 Cherokee and it's sender was non-operational, I got it
going by replacing the resistance board (ceramic with resistance wire
wrapped around it) with one from an Eagle I parted. I found out since then
new FSJ senders were available from http://bjsoffroad.com and that at work
we have a "universal" sending unit that would work.

Al- John- There is a place in Keene ,NH that sells new and repairs radiators, heater cores condensors, and fuel tanks and I beleive they also rebuild the sending units. They seemeed to do a lot of mail order stuff when I stopped by last year. I found their flyer. Radiator Express, INC.603-358-3036. 800-827-4323. good luck. did you try any other application, will a concord one fit or be adapted to the spirit with modification? I was sorting and going thorugh my pile of parts the other day, and found a gas tank sending unit- in the box, but with no gasket, ring or filter. I looked it up and it was for a Hornet. I don't have a hornet. I happened to look further , and also back a year or so and found out the number was for javelins/amx's as well. I have a javelen. and maybe someday i can use it. Oh, luck day! Anway, it threw me off cause they list them with or without the filter sock and some ring or gasket, which I have to beleive are avaialable. I was surprised at that. It !
would be great if this place can rebuild them. John did you get yours rebuilt or are you still lookiing for one.regards and good luck.

Glad to see you're back Jim! That Jeep 327/400 combo sounds like it will be really nice in the Commando.

Either there is some confusion or more likely people just aren't reading
these messages.

You CAN NOT change your settings from the AMX-Files web site pages any
more!! I repeat: You CAN NOT change your settings from the AMX-Files web
site pages any more!! Many people have tried doing just that then get
frustrated when nothing happens.

You need to go to www.amc-list.com to change your settings. You will
need your password. If you don't have it, type in your e-mail address in
the provided space, then scroll to the bottom of the page and click on
the "remind" button. The system will send your password to the e-mail
you subscribed with provided it matches the e-mail address you typed in.
I don't know how long it takes to send the password back, shouldn't take
more than an hour or two. Once you get a password go back to
www.amc-list.com, type in your e-mail address and password, and you will
be directed to another screen. Scroll down this screen and READ! One of
the first things you can do is change the password to something you can
remember (but you can always use the remind button later).

To change your other settings, scroll down the page to the grey boxes.
The first choice is "Mail Delivery". To the right is a box with two
choices -- enable and disable. Select "disable" if you want to stay
subscribed so you can post but don't want to receive mail. THAT'S ALL
THERE IS TO IT!

I know people are reluctant to change, but this change is for the
better. Scroll down and look at the other options while you're there.
It's a simple selection for everything.

If the system hasn't sent you a password in 12 hours contact me
(farna@xxxxxxx) and I'll make the change for you. I check my e-mail
every evening and will make all changes as soon as I see them.

" Gurall jimjam186@xxxxxxx

it's -sort-of- a bolt in.

the springs are in the right place, but this is the same rear as the
'68-'70 amx/javelin - 2" +/- wider than the american rear. you'll
have difficulty fitting any wheels wider than stock, and even they
could be a squeeze.

resealed I asked the guy about a 1973 Hornet
windshield. He can get one and install it for $200, so
yours should be the same, or close. Check your local
windshield place......Russ

I stopped by an old boneyard and he has 3 AMCs. I will
be parting out the Matador. He has a 51 Nash wagon for
sale (complete but needing work) for $1000. The 62 is
a 4-dr, stick, etc. Pretty basic. Make offer. Both are
located outside Salem, Oregon. Write me if interested,
he doesn't want any looky-loos.
The Matador is a 75 4-dr, 304-AT-PS-Thats it. Pretty
basic but complete. The dash is apart for some reason.
I took out the windshield already and will be taking
the brakes, front sway bar and tail lites. Anybody
need anything?.....Russ
