We couldn't transfer settings easily. We should have put everyone on digest mode before switching, but forgot to do so. I changed everyone over Friday night and the complaints have all most ceased. We get one occasionally from someone who got frustrated/surprised by the sudden and unexpected influx of mail when we first switched over and now doesn't want to see even one or two messages, but most people don't mind 1-3 digests it seems. I've made the default sign-up digest mode, so that should help. Of course the other problem was long inactive addresses, either on purpose (like yours and my work address also) or forgotten. The forgotten ones should have been cleared from the system, but either the old server wasn't deleting them or people were getting the "reply if you want to stay subscribed" message and replying to it not knowing what it was. In any case, we're down from the 1744 addresses when we changed over (I didn't believe that number!) to 784 at the moment. I was thinking we should have around 700-800 subscribers, with close to 100 doubled addresses (like you and I -- people keeping two addresses subscribed). So we should have around 700 individuals subscribed to the list. Only a few left that were intentionally subscribed. We've had two new people subscribe over the last couple days despite the problems, which was a mild surprise! Most of it seems to be cleared up already. I think the last few complainers will be okay once they realize they aren't going to get more than 1-3 mails a day. Only a few people have figured out how to change their settings and read on the archive site, but that will get around too. I hope the AMX-Files comes back up in a couple days though, that will really be nice! The list and web site have been working together for a long time, and make a good team. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Independent Magazine" (AIM) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AIM.html (free download available!) original message------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 9 Apr 2006 08:39:12 -0700 (PDT) From: Nick ALFANO <71amx@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [AMC-List] Welcome to the list issues Tom, There are probably a lot of people who are a member yet never receive the list. They simply go to the AMC files and read when they have time or have forgotten they ever belonged to the list. When you switched the list over to your server, it seems you migrated all the members but did not migrate the meta data which would have kept their settings the same. In doing so, now everyone is getting the list sent to what ever e-mail address was on file. It also switched setting like digest form to individual e-mails. I know this because I started getting the list sent to an account I put on suspend well over a year ago because I didn't want the list going there. It will just take some time to get it cleaned up Nick Alfano ------------------------------ Message: 2 Date: Sun, 9 Apr 2006 20:26:29 -0700 From: "Jamie Smith" <oconner51@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [AMC-List] please un subscribe (NOTE FROM LIST ADMIN) To: <amc-list@xxxxxxx> Message-ID: <BAY115-DAV3A4F294C637E9190591CABFCC0@xxxxxxx> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" I can verify that the old server was indeed , at least occasionally, deleting subscribed email addresses. I would occasionally get emails at both of my subscribed addresses stating that there had been 90 days ( ?) of inactivity on my account (seems like 90 days was what it said, maybe it was more) and because of that inactivity my email address had been removed so I would have to re-subscribe both of my email addresses. The funny thing was it would send me that inactivity notice a day or two after I posted. The problems we had when changing were two-fold: The biggest one was the old server wasn't maintaining the subscriber list as it was set up to do. It never deleted a subscribed e-mail address even though it was supposed to confirm on a bi-yearly basis and delete unless the message is sent stating a user would be deleted unless a reply was sent to a specific link. <snip> {quote} ------------------------------ Message: 3 Date: Mon, 10 Apr 2006 00:07:02 -0500 From: "Eppley's" <ftime@xxxxxxx> Subject: [AMC-List] unsubscibe To: AMC-List@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <4439A1A6.22717.2E8F16E@localhost> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII please unsubcribe -- No virus found in this outgoing message. If not, does anyone know what years and cars are a replacement? Eddie SNIP Eddie As of this writing I have had no problems contacting a local windshield replacement service for Hornet windshields. I believe the Hornet, Concord, Spirit, Gremlin and Eagle windshields are all the same. Like usual it was 99% Chevy, but we did see an AMX and a Gremlin X in the car corral. The AMX appeared to be a former race car. It had a 290 in it. At $9,000 it seemed a little pricey. There was no information on the Gremlin X. I could barely make out the VIN through the window. Maybe a 74? I'm not sure what years they made these.
