There are programs available to allow you to electronically bid at the last
second.  Getting outbid at the last second is a fact of life with ebay. 
The best advice I have ever heard was to bid what you are willing to pay. 
If you underbid, then you are just giving it away.  Look at the completed
prices.  Also, bidding at the last second can be risky, because you have no
idea what the other guys high bid price is.  Bid what you are willing to
pay and walk away.  Otherwise you'll just drive yourself nuts.

All- I have been trying to buy a 4sp console for my 73 Ranchero. I have 
found 2 in the last month. They are hard to come by. This last one, I was 
the only bidder for 5 days, then a second bidder outbid me with 90 seconds 
left to go. I was at a meeting when the auction ended, so wasn't able to 
monitor it like the first time, when I got outbid with 20 seconds left.
Both 
times by a buck! I have never bought, or sold, on eBay, because every time
I 
try, I get outbid. So my feedback score is 0. I don't like to buy online 
either, but at least there is no bidding issues. I might add that both of 
these consoles, as well as everything else I've tried to buy, has had no 
'buy it now' price. So my big question is, does anyone have advice on how
to 
get around this problem? I really wanted those things I tried to buy. For 
specific AMC content, I am going to be selling off some of my AMC parts 
stash. I have right now, a NEW, MINT, NOS, NEVER BEEN ON A CAR, HornetAMX 
grill, still in plastic wrap, NEW custom SEWN dark-grey carpet set for a 
humpster, a V8 crossmember for a Javelin/AMX (I think it will fit Rogues), 
complete rust-free floor pans and trunk floor for a Javelin/AMX, lots of 
misc stuff. If you're interested let me know you're needs.-Mike
