Motorcraft 2 bbl Carb Experts needed 1.08 for 258 questions

OK, so yesterday I got a small pile of 1.08 Mtr crft
carbs.  I was looking for some to replace the Carter 2
Bbl's on my 258's and stumbled on a deal.  Problem is,
every one is missing some pieces and they are not all
exactly alike, other than the "1.08" on the housing.  

Do all of the basic components interchage with other
Mtrcrt 2 bbl's (1.14, 1.21, etc...)?   

On some there is the a component on top near the
airhorn which is help on with three small hex screws
hooked up to the Choke butterflies witha small
linkage.  On others it is not there.  WHich is
preferable... with or without?  WHat is that thing?  

(When I rebuilt the 1.14 on my Commando, there was
nothing under that but a diaghragm, though it did not
seem to go anywhere and was not included in the
rebuild kit)

Does anyone have any guidance as to experience with
the optimal jet and power valve specs?  I know a loit
of people have run them and maybe your experiences can
benefit the rest of us!
