I was probably thnking about the 2.53. IIRC the 2.53 fits the "3 series" (common) carrier, the 2.37 and higher (lower numbers) fit the same carrier. I recall mention of a special very high gear having a separate carrier from the factory -- might have been the 2.21?

Never heard of a "super" D35, but there definitely as a heavy duty version. When I replaced the bearings in the Comanche D35 I initially used in my Rambler the first ones I bought (standard D35) were to small! The HD version uses the same housing and ends, but the axle was slightly bigger and used a different bearing. I don't think it was more than 0.10" bigger -- not sure now. Don't recall if spline count was different.
