Jim my response to Jim; "I have 2.87 gears in the model 20 now. The Javelin came from the factory with them. I found a very reasonable priced 2.73 twin grip differential from a Jeep. Mostly I'm looking for the 2.73 gears because I felt lucky just finding a twin grip differential for 2.73 gears. If I could find a twin grip for the 2.87s I would go that way. The last one on ebay I saw sold for way over what I thought was affordable. Especially when I can find a 2.73 setup for way less than half of what the 2.87 will bring. I think the 2.87 set up I have now works pretty good but like I mentioned I have to shift out of first gear almost as soon as I get the car rolling. I know a guy who has a 73 AMX with a T5 and 3.54 twin grip. He says first in his set up is just border line." what gear is your carrier from? the 2.73/2.56 gears have their own carrier separate from the 2.86-up gears. iirc 2.73s and 2.56s could be found on some late-'70s amc v8s. they can also be found, with torsen posis, in hummers. amc20 3.07s and 3.31s can only be found in jeeps. i still would like to know if the hummer 3.08 fits the regular hummer 2.73/2.56 torsen carrier or if it has its own carrier. i am assuming you know that the hummer [h1], true to its amgeneral roots, has amc20 differentials. ________________________________________________________________________ Andrew Hay the genius nature internet rambler is to see what all have seen adh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and think what none thought my response to Andrew; "The twin grip carrier came with 2.73 gears on it. It was in a Jeep CJ." "I don't know much about Hummers except there aren't any in the yards around here. So I think they are just as tough if not tougher to find." " Andrew I will certainly let you know if I happen across finding which gearsets fit in which carriers, I think Randy Guynn or some one had something about this a while ago." "I had heard that the AMGeneral H1 had AMC 20 axles. I've never been close enough to one of them to see for sure. I do know a fella up north has one, I see him every once in a while, I'll look closer the next time I see it." To these two guys and everyone, thanks for responding and look through your stuff for a set of 2.73 gears, let me know if you want to part with them. Armand
