You are forgetting the first year of AMCs existance
when Packard provided the V8s!! But I am still amazed
when "car people" will tell me Chevy provided the 327
even when provided the years in question or the 
actual physical differences between the two (look at
the intake manifolds, the water inlet, etc). Maybe it
is the distributor, maybe it is the size, maybe it is
the years of listening to these falsehoods being
bandied about.
But that doesn't explain why they think the 304 is a
Ford. 304/302- close enough. Oh well......Russ
