Aluminum Door Sill Restoration

Boy do I wish some one made repo door sill plates. My son said he paid
30$ for 2 for his Javelin. These are one real PIA to try to make to look
decent. Start out by washing with lacquer thinner, then with a small
brass wire wheel in my dremil clean out the ribs. Then with assorted
small hammers and picks remove the dents and dings as best you can. Then
wet sand to remove the scratches and corrosion pitting with 400# sand
paper and then go to 600# sand paper. I got 20 hours into one sill so
far and am only half way done with the 600# sanding. Next is sanding
with 1000# and then crocus cloth. Finally polish with Autosol metal
polish. There is 100% difference between the one that is almost half way
done compared to the other one which was just washed with lacquer
thinner. I hope the dazzle of the chrome like polished finish will hide
some of the dings and dents that were not able to be removed perfectly.
I spent around 5,000$ on this interior and would gladly have coughed up
the money for repo or NOS sill plates.
