There was a story about the rum runners and their boats on the History
Channel a while back. One boat yard built the rum runners boats on one
side of the yard and the Coast Guard chase boats on the other side of
the yard. I don't remember the brand of engine they used but in the 20's
it was 2 war surplus water cooled straight 8's out of a WW1 plane.
