I represent Creative Hot Rods in Troy MI. We are working on a 1957 327
CID Rambler Ambassador Engine. I notice that main bearing caps 1 thru 4
have a number and an arrow on the main bearing cap. We are assuming that
these caps begin at the front of the block and progressively go towards
the back of the block. Are we correct?
This engine is VERY tight. All torque specs were taken from a 1957
Rambler tech manual. However, this tech manual does not have anything on
these bearing caps.
This engine was rebuilt to specs with the crank ground to 10/10. When
test run, this engine basically destroyed the bearings.... bearings were
recieving oil. Engine was disassembled, the crank was then ground to
20/20. The man who rebuilt the engine the first time has left the company.
One thing seems to stick out.... there is virtualy NO clearance between
the rod caps.... this puzzles me to no end.
Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated.
