As long as you have a way to link the throttle with the speed of the 'charger it should work. The only advantage I can see is you could run without the 'charger at low speeds, sort of a delay before the rheostat caught up with the throttle.
Like the remote turbo, the main advantages are cheaper installation due to less complicated/tight plumbing and less heat in engine compartment.
