A: My '73 J4000 has 5 on 5 1/2" pattern too (at least the front still does.
I have a full float 8 lug D60 rear axle now) with the largest center hole
(because it has D44 front and was D60-2 semi-float rear) I have '84 Bronco
full size wheels that fit fine (3 chrome and 1 steel) and the front axle I
was going to swipe the disc brakes from to make my front brakes better.
(going to matching J20 front axle and just need a Dodge NP208 from a 727 to
finish the swap, then the flatdeck goes on after I finish moving)
You can use a dremel or lathe to open up the center hole to fit on the
earlier drum brake ones. (I'll have my own closed knuckle D44 front axle for
sale soon and I put all new brakes and drums on last summer)

" Yep that's an AMC/Jeep Commando... since it's a 73.
" WHat other brand wheels will fit it? I want to get a
" decent set... even white Wagon wheels. The PO put a
" couple of Ranger wheels on the back which bolt up,
" however, the hole in the middle is too small so the
" wheel rides on top of the hub rather than flat against
" the drum. THis is not only dangerous and hard on the
" wheels, it also keeps the rear brakes from working
" since the drums are flopping around back there.
i'm amazed someone would even try this kind of botch.
" Will an older, full size 5 lug Ford Oickup wheel work?
iirc both are 5x5.5" but i don't know about the center holes.
