If the cable and gear are okay, the problem is in the guts of the
speedometer. The speedometer uses magnets and springs to move and stabilize

them. I've never sent any gauges out to be repaired but US Speedometer
advertises in Rod & Custom (they can also recalibrate gauges for different
sending units if needed).
The odometer is hard-geared to the cable; the speedo is as Matt
sez. If the odo works and the speedo doesn't, it's in the speedo
assembly somewhere. If the odometer doesn't change the tip of the
cable probably isn't seated (slightly short cable?) or it twisted
off.
