" I may have a deal on a '93 4.0. I have a question that I think I know
" the answer to, but would like to bounce it off all of you.
"
" The SVO T5 setup that is currently behind my '70 390 - wouldn't that be
" a direct bolt on for the 4.0? I bought the entire setup and iirc the

" driveshaft length, and trans crossmember, I'd think it would all fit,
" yes?
yup. if you stick with f.i. you'll need to do something about the
cps, which normally sits on the bell. and one of the motor mount
holes, unused in jeeps, was co-opted for the knock sensor so you'll
have to find a metric bolt [10mm? 12mm?] and ream the bracket.
" The 390 car is down for a full resto, and if the engine comes out the
" way I envision, it'll be too strong for the T5 anyway, so might need to
" go back to a T10.
if the 390's being built up any, a better choice may be a ford
toploader. use a late-'70s t150 or multipattern bell, pilot bushing,
and t.o. bearing, and a ford clutch disk. the garden variety
short-tailshaft toploader is a drop-in swap for the t150, which is a
ford 3sp in the same family anyway.
