whats your average miles per gallon achieved with your 199 or

Woah! You should be getting 16-18mpg average combined mileage,
unless your axle ratio is something crazy. With an axle around
3:1, at a steady 60 - 65 mph in a sedan or even a wagon with one
or two people and not a ton of bricks, 17 - 19 mpg. Some people
get higher peak mileage, but I tend to do 1000 mile averages (the
beauty of spreadsheets).
I'm getting an easy 21 mpg in my 258-powered Hornet (average over
1000 miles), combined city/highway, mostly highway though, and on
the highway I drive 65-75 and I'm not easy on the throttle in this
car. Mine's an automatic, 2.73:1 axle, small Weber carb, decent
exhaust but otherwise 100% dead stock. Engine is pretty fresh
though (bought rebuilt long block from a friend.)
(I have every single fuel fillup and mileage measure on my 1963
Rambler dating back to 1994, many with notes on tuneup, timing
changes, etc. Missed a few here and there, but not many. It's
really useful data. I'm doing the same with my Hornet.)
