Then this must be the AMX/GT?? That's the only thing earlier I can think of. To bad AMC didn't build a two seat AMX on the short Gremlin platform. To really pull it off they would have needed new rear quarters, roof, rear filler panel, and grille. They could have used the Hornet front fenders with a different grille. Leave out the back seat and maybe lay a wood filler panel in to dress it up under the carpet. Or they could have went the hot rodder route and just used the Hornet front end and chopped the top of a Gremlin and moved the front seats back and slanted windshield a little more -- or slopped the rear roof at a custom shop. It could have been done, and rather easily. I don't think AMC was hurting that much for money at the time either. I believe the problem was mostly production space/time since the Hornet was selling so good. They axed the Ambassador and Javelin as much for production space/time as for low sales. Once the Spirit came out it would have been even easier to create a good looking two seater AMX with great performance. Just drop the back seat, make the filler panel, add ground effects and handling package, a good visual package, 304 (even if a 2V auto, though a four speed option would be nice), and maybe even splurge on a different grille. Sure, everyone would know it was a modified Spirit, but if it had some unique pieces who would care? On June 29, 2005 Mahoney, John wrote: > Brien asked if I meant a Turbo PPG.
