A: Undo the back of the cat and see if the problem goes away. The cat may
have fallen apart and clogged the muffler. (I have a '90 E350 van that 16
mechanics couldn't figure that out on so I got it cheap!)

My boss has a 1990 Ford F-150 with 6 cylinder and auto tranny. He started
having problems with it losing power and it started really going through the
gas. He took it to a muffler shop and had the catalytic convertor changed
(it was plugged). That improved the power a little but was still
underpowered and horrible on gas milage. He took it to the ford dealer and
they screwed around with it for a week and replaced an oxygen sensor and
said that was the best they could get it. We tried it for 3 days and it
wasn't much better than it had been so he took it back to the dealer.
They screwed around with it for about a month, replaced the sensor again,
replaced the computer, replaced the ignition coil and through a whole bunch
of other parts at it and after all that they called him today and said to
come get it cause they were giving up. From what I understand the fuel
injectors are slamming wide open at all times. At one point they had that
fixed but it was still not runn8ing right and under powered and the computer
codes were saying the timing was off. They checked the timing and said it is
right on (that is why they replaced the computer, they thought it was faulty
and sending false signals).
Now it is right back to the condition it was in when he first took it to
them (and to top it off they want him to pay for the parts but none of the
parts they put in it fixed the problem). Does anyone have any ideas? At this
point he just wants to get it fixed so he can sell it (and hopefully not end
up losing any more money on it). Thanks for any advice.
