Tom, you might want to look at some of the older TBI
setups that didn't use check engine lights.  Very few
cars, only one I can think of.  The TBI on the old Geo
Metros ('89-'91 or so) were very simple, but I'm not
sure that would provide the adequate air/fuel mixture
for an I-6.  I don't know if these are better TBI
units, but I know that the Geo Storm and Chevy Beretta
2.0L motors used a very basic TBi setup as well.
