I wonder.
If I end up buying the Ford input.
Maybe instead of having a pilot bearing made I'LL have the snout of the Input turned down to
0.590" Then I won't even have to pull the bellhousing, let alone the clutch and pressure plate.
With the 95 4.0L I had to have a bushing turned down as I couldn't get the right one Chrysler did some funny redo on the back of the cranks on 4.0's sometime in the 90's.
It has a double stepped crank opening. first step is almost the size of the flange that locates to flywheel, second step is close to the older size opening, but smaller.
I had to have a bushing turned down to fit in the second step. IIRC the bushing is shouldered to keep it out about a 1/4". This got the AMC T-5 input almost the full depth of the bushing.
That's why I'm thinking the GM input may work. My busing is probably 1/2" farther away now then a stock AMC bushing and that is how much shorter the GM input is than a Ford input.
So, If I can use a stock AX-15 roller bearing. The GM input will hopefully work. Then I will need to change out the clutch disc to a 26 spline disc. Which shouldn't be too hard to come up with as I'm running the Jeep 11" disc.
Confused yet? I am!
