Can you elaborate? I'm really interested to know more about this.
Myinterest in one particular outcome is obvious, but I don't have
religion in it.
Worst-case, I'll continue to use the field as a
sweeeet parking lot :-)
----------------------------------------------------------------
You might try a Port-0- L00 ;)- and give us all a break........
Understandably Sentiment as to the Cans of Worms...
Yet - look what we would have missed had we
not stuck that Rolls Royce Merlin V-12 onto
our P-51 Mustang Fighter Aircraft engine
bulkhead!
Which is not to say the Allison V-12 should be
held in the same breath as the AMC 4 / 6 / 8
cyl. engines - as a Warmly Massaged 390
would thrill the most Radical of Addictions
yet there are those who prefer listening to
Concubines..........
AMC produced some Body Styles
that Fine Profile -
which takes a lot to bring back to just Driver
Condition -
- what with per Gallon of
Wal Mart Paint
and Bar Code on that 360" Horse Hair Paint
Brushy...
Yet - these past few years have brought
some Incredible Power Plants into mass
production and within Grasp of Flat
Wallets everywhere - even as Detroit
enters G'otterdamarung -
Passage to Oblivion'.
Plymouth is Gone. Oldsmobile - Americas
oldest Running Marque? - Gone.
GM stock is one Cats Whisker away from
Junk Bond Status - Wall St. won't touch it.
Rover is now - Gone. MG - the British Sports Car
known the world around in the 60s' as
The Yuppie 'Gate Crasher' (similar to the
fold down seats of the Nash - in outcome only)
- Gone.
The Thunderbird is Dead.
DCX stock chart looks a lot like a Killington Vt.
Ski Slope Trail Map.
But for this Brief Expanse of Time -
Materials that were once Private Reserve
of Racing Circles and Construction GCs
on their Saturday Night Specials - are
now almost common among Manufacturers
but it won't last - .
Right now, you're seeing the culmination
of Old School Engineering at its' Best.
But Commodities are in demand -
and Aluminum & Steel command
cash money overseas due to Asias
rapid building plan - these wonderful
engines - produced for just a few years -
will be gone as well.
Big Money in Expensive Drivetrains -
soon to be a thing of the Past for
Manufacturers World Wide -
in a Price War - going Electric
is Salvation staring them in the Face.
Anyone here have a Checkered Past involving
Slot Cars ? Remember rewinding those
C'ores' >?.......... Big Expensive > Right ;)?
I watched on TV - an Electric S'portscar' -
which amounted to a Fiberglas' body on
a Tube Frame - put a V12 Ferrara away in
a Drag Race - in Major Proportions..
in the WeeDs - ! Enzo, we hardly knew ye!
Sequential Multi-Port Fuel Injection /
Turbo Supercharging / Electronic Control
Module Controllers for Hydraulicly Controlled
DOHC Camshaft Positioning - HorsePower
and Torque figures in Stock Engines that
surpass Expensively Modified Stock efforts
are Available Now at Salvage Yard Prices.
The Last Year of the Olds Aurora V8 engine
is a work of Art.
Short stroke V8 - with Twin Turbos you
would have an Indy Car engine screaming
shift points @ 8,000 RPM - or - a
miserly Boulevard Cruiser Potentate -
just spin the Boost Controller............
Designed alongside the
Northstar - and packing a slightly smaller
dimension -
Upgraded for its' final year
with rollers on the cam interfaces - this all
Aluminum DOHC Orphan Fuel Sipping
V8 Beauty languishes
in salvage Engine Bays and may find
their Fates coupled with those of AMC
motors - scrapped and lost.
Or what about an Inliner for you Purists ?
After being on the STROKERS List for 4.0
engines some 3+ years, those builders
who know tossed all their I'mprovements'
to the 4.0 they thought DCX could do to
create the "Ultimate" Inliner onto the List:
DOHC / Crossflow head / 4 valve / semi Hemi /
Strong bottom end Design Structure / Latest
Alloy Materials / Ultra Light Weight via
Lost Foam Casting etc.
They missed the Hydraulicly controlled via
ECM Camshafts - which creates a 'Sweet Spot'
right across the entire operating range of the
Engine...... as they didn't know it existed.
Less weight and exhibiting more usable HP /
Torque of a Maxed Stroker 4.0 (4.7 etc.) and
being of 4.2 configuration :
All of the above Inliner can be purchased for around
$800.00 from www.car-parts.com salvage.
The Same Engine - bumped to 5.0 with Forged Rods & Pistons
and an Increased Compression Ration - putting out
600HP all day (up from 275 stock in 4.2 config.) in a Desert Race
Vehicle - turned in
consistent Wins without breaking a sweat.
Want one of these F'rivolous ChachKiies' in Your
CLassIC ?
OK - so this Golden Era of Incredible Engines
in Salvage Yards - , as we're witnessing the Dawn of
Alternate Fuel Age
Engines and the coming of Electric Cars - knowing
to the eventuality that our cherished Hot Rods will
one day rely on fuelling at Agway Grain & Feed
Store - or a LNG hook-up at a Friends Restaurant
- or running the cycled out
Deep Fryer Oils from McDonalds & Burger King as
a Designer Chic' Odiferous Cruise Accessory' .
Having been first attracted to cars via Engine
sounds - I can't help but marvel this
'Final Battle' of
"Bold & Beautiful" in their Own Right -
Ultra-Tech Engines - of 'Other' Manufacture
Status.
Back when L'ittle GTO' was making the Rounds -
and 'of Mythical Proportions' created
- it remains
to this day known only by
'The Keeper of Book Tiger Paws' -
that it was a Tri-Power 427
that lurked under
the KingTigers bonnet - not a 389.
Some would argue for a P'repped' 421 ..........but
who knew where that New Jersey V'ette went one
dark and dreary night - insurance was paid up..
The 389 was a mild engine that would grenade a lot.
Thet got Yanked on a Saturday Nite
......... when you sent the sick G'oat to the V'ette'.......
and you later conveniently F'orgot' the keys to the locked
hood pins........ "Put up or Shut up"............
Ok - who here remembers the Studillac -
raise your Hands ! Uh-huh....... thought so.
Oh! Is that New Old Stock ? Rally ?
What did you pay for it ?
Brien.
