Received this from Randy:

gears they were selling were recalled. This new batch of gears is now 
what is available from Crown. Same manufacturer as before, but properly 
heat treated.

As for how these are going to perform only time will tell.

also MSD still says they are going to start shipping Cam & Distributor 
gears any day. I know for a Fact that MSD units are made in USA. Crown 
pieces are imported so the gears are not coming from the same source. 
MSD gears are said to be made by the original manufacturer of the 
original AMC pieces.
