Park Brake Release Handle: Removable?

Re: 73 Hornet Parking Brake Release Handle.
Is the black plastic handle 'removable' from
the cable itself? I'd like to do so to make
cleaning it up/re-painting it easier than
doing it in-car.
If they come off...anyone know of any NOS or
excellent original handles available?
