I was in Germany last yr and rented a VW Golf Turbo Diesel w/ 6 speed.  I tell you what, that thing moved pretty good!  Cruising at 200-220 KMH on the autobahn was no big deal with plenty of power left.  I never did absolutely stretch it out, but even at 220 KMH, I'd get the occasional Porche or BMW blow by running 260-280+!

I was just there again this past Feb, and had a little SMART CAR 4 dr.  I saw Jeep Cheerokees that were diesel powered, as they'd lumber by me when I was walking in the heavy snow that was falling darn near the whole time I was there.  It would take some engineering, and some research, but a turbo-diesel Hot Rod American might be the ticket for the future...
