the York type compressorsSUCK.
And they compress, and forever apparently, I have never had a York fail.
The last non York that failed cost just a little over $400.00 (compressor only).
Apparently what makes them "bad", relative to the Sandens, is that they are most efficient at low engine speeds; lots of cool at idle! But this is what overloads the cooling system, when the water pump, fan etc is turning slowest. Efficiency drops with increased RPM.
The Sandens are very efficient, seven pistons (depends on model) and a wobble plate. They too last a long time. They cost $250 or so new. Output goes up with increased RPM; they are efficient at higher RPMs. So, at idle less heat produced, less overheat load on the engine. More cool at highway speeds with less gasoline.
Sandens are available with flare fittings and prefilled with R12 compatible oil. They will bolt into a York bracket with an adapter. I did precisely this in my 1975 Gremlin, factory stock
