The way this implemented is to use a double pole double throw (DPDT)
switch with center off.  The two motor wires go to the two middle
contacts.  Battery goes to one end of the first pole and the opposite
end of the second pole.  Ground goes to the two remaining contacts.

Looking at the back of the switch:

                   Motor

   Battery |   |     |     |   |  Ground
           |                   |
   Ground  |   |     |     |   |  Battery
           |                   |
           +-------------------+
                   Motor

If up and down are backwards when you operate the switch, reverse the
motor leads.
