If you like the 700R4 and are familiar with it then you may want to go ahead.
A two wheel drive AW4 can drive a speedo. I htink they switched to electronic in 92 or so, but the case is still set up to allow cable drive with the older adpater.
I don't see two wheel drive AW4's around here either, but they are a dime a dozen in the warmer climates and shipping shouldn't be too big a deal. But it may be easiest to just go the 700R4 route.
I would probably be happier with the 4l60E if it was a little more adjustable. I don't care for how the computer shifts the thing. The 4.3 pulling around 4500Lbs of S-10 Crewcab 4X4 doesn't help any!
