A: The CJ-7 (I think that's the model. That or early YJ Wrangler. I know more of the later history of the baby Jeeps) got the Buick/GM 2.8 V6 and 2.5L Iron Duke. I personally would not have wanted to drive a Pacer with a GM V6 smaller than 4.3L (Well, maybe the 229. I liked the one I had in an '80 Mailibu I sold for my son last year) The lack of powerband in the V6s was astounding and coupled with the weight of the Pacer, would have been crippling. Now 4.0L with EFI should have been in them (or at least a GM version of the TBI) From: KSiroonian@xxxxxxx Subject: Re: AMC history (Buick/Jeep V-6) To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx Message-ID: <ADVANCES62ZzHZlJ2Hx00004b21@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Frank, great info. Was this the engine Jeep used the moniker "Hurricane v-6"? Or vigilante or something? I can not recall that specifically, but I think I recall seeing that name on the air cleaner, fender or somewhere. I do recall that, after amc bought Jeep in 70/71 they used the AMC 6 and 8 engines exclusivly, and this engine plant line in Toledo sat unused. the engine was inheritantly a rough running engine and needed emisison certification work. Due to the first gas crunch in 73, GM was desperate for more fuel efficient engines and bought the complete tooling line for this motor back from AMC at that time, and then had to invest a lot of R and D, to get the engine running smooth and emmission compliant. The rotary project was about dead, so maybe this was their alternative. Wonder if it would have fit better in the pacer, than our own in line 6. The wrangler came out in 80's and did not use the v-6, nor did the cj-7 . Regards, AMC KEN.
