Re: AMC World Clubs????

Jock, All, I did recommend AMO on the AMC Forum. I also stated the reasons -- it's the largest (no argumeents there) and strongest (based on facts, but could be considered my opinion) of the AMC clubs. I recommended it personally, not in AIM.

AIM has nothing to do with my personal opinions on clubs, or in general. It's all but a separate entity from myself. No club newsletter editor can say that, but then they have to biased towards their own club -- comes with the job. I *always* treat the clubs on an equal basis in AIM, and always will. That's why NAMDRA gets the same 1/2 page in the Annual as the other clubs. If I do state an opinion, it will just be in the editorial or letters section (as an answer). Even then clubs are treated the same.

I wasn't saying anything AGAINST any of the other clubs. How long, and how well, will NAMDRA exist after you're gone Jock? you've been the executive officer and general backbone of the club for years. I respect your dedication, but will there be someone who can step right in after you, or will it be like AMCWC? AMO has a GROUP that runs the club, not a single person that does most of the work. I'm in the same boat -- if I get tired of printing AIM or something happens to me, it's likely just gone. Darryl Salisbury has been president of AMO for a long time, but he doesn't direct the group that much -- the board of directors does. AMO has an organization that is flexible and survivable. That makes them stronger in the long run. They have issues as well, but changes in the BOD has been resolving some of them lately. If they get the "non members can't show cars" issue resolved, more people will find them that much more appealing.

I made a poor choice in words when I said "absorb". "Merger" would be the appropriate term. AMO, as the stronger and larger organization, would likely take the lead in any merger. That's also why I stated that any merger would likely fall under a different name. AMOs governnmental form (with some charter/constituion changes) would be the best to follow is all.

I don't think Jock CAN be objective in any discussion of club mergers. I don't mean this to offend you Jock -- you're just to emotionally involved with NAMDRA. You've dedicated a good part of your life to NAMDRA and the AMC hobby. Not a negative statement at all, but very commendable to your dedication.

Jock's idea of an AMC Council is still the best thing I've heard yet. It's a first step toward eventual merger. Like George Mason in AMC's past, I think the only way for the AMC hobby to survive is to eventually merge into one larger, stronger group. As John Mahoney put it, staying small is what eventually drove AMC out of business.
