It will not work as far I know. The American had a different switch than the AMBO as i found out. At least in the 66 models. The horn spring pin is located in a different place on the switch.

Subject: Will a 1967 American turn signal switch fit a 1967 Ambassador
I have a nice AT steering column left from a 1966 or 67 Rambler American(not sure which year it came from). The turn signal switch appears to be just fine! Will the turn signal switch fit my 1967 Ambassador? I'm getting rid of the column along with alot of 67 American parts...since nobody wants any 67 American parts. I'll keep the switch if it will fit my Ambassador as a spare. Thanks for any helpful info,Please email me direct. I have to clean out my other storage garage "NOW"!! Thankyou,Joe
