lost keys

Is the lock in the Concord the same as GM locks with the code stamped on
a raised boss?
 The reason I ask is I remember 25 or so years ago on GM cars if you
punched a small hole in the drivers door frame above the latch (on the
frame that AMC puts the data plate ) even with the lock  you could then
use a flash light to read the code off the lock thru the hole. This is
not a show car. It's a driver almost beater. Does this sound feasible.
