The only thing to remember is that you will need a 71-76 disc brake master cylinder with the 73 Javelin disc setup. 71-76 all models used the big piston K-H calipers (3" or so piston) and need a bigger bore master cylinder than the drum brakes. 77-83 all except the Matador (continued with the big piston/master) used a 2.6" piston caliper. The smaller caliper uses the same master cylinder bore as the drum brakes. You can retain the drum brake master after removing the residual pressure valve from the front brake outlet. The pin type brakes (uses two pins with small cotter keys to hold the pins in to mount the pads) are lower drag than the sliding type. Rotors can be hard to find for them, so check first. Rotors for the smaller calipers are generally easier to find and a bit cheaper, that's why more people use them. 82-83 small piston calipers are also a low drag type. -- Frank Swygert Publisher, "American Independent Magazine" (AIM) For all AMC enthusiasts http://farna.home.att.net/AIM.html (free download available!) -------------- Original message ---------------------- > Date: Wed, 12 Jan 2005 18:16:42 -0500 > From: neprocap@xxxxxxx > Subject: Re: Disk brake swap on 1972 Gremlin.which is better > To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx > Message-ID: <ADVANCES62bpH71yEXU00000072@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > > Joe, > Go with the Kelsey Hays brakes off the 73.
