A: More likely you have a rear axle shaft spinning in it's hub. Easy to check by removing the hubcaps (unless you have those aluminum rims with the tiny center holes) and putting it in gear. If you see the center nut turning and the wheel isn't (I suggest parking forwards against a VERY solid wall and giving just the slightest amount of throttle) that's the one that needs fixing. I just sold an XJ axle to a fellow to put in his '85 Eagle to cure that same trouble. From: "S.M.F." <olsmbl@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: Blown transfer case??????? To: mail@xxxxxxxxxxxx I have a 1984 Eagle wagon 4X4 with 51,000 miles.I think I have blow the transfer case while trying to get out of some very high snow and ice mixture,In two wheel drive I can feel the car slip and make a moaning noise and has a hard time going.I put in 4 wheel drive and everything seems fine.My question is am I hurting the car anymore by driving it in 4 wheel drive for about 2 more weeks until I get it fixed.I drive maybe 5-10 miles a day. Thank you for your time. JR
