It is DEFINITELY the 87-90 that will only fit in an Eagle, and I suspect other AMC cars. On the Eagle the engine mount is in the way, and it's in the same place as other AMC cars. The 87-90 tubular exhaust is better flowing than the stock manifolds, consider it the six cylinder equivalent of the V-8 factory "free flow" exhaust manifolds. The 87-90 4.0L exhaust is prone to cracking around the last three tubes. This is due to the weight of the exhaust system. When I had mine welded I had the cracked areas gusseted and a 1/2" bar welded between the last two tubes about six inches down. It hasn't cracked again in three years running. You can also put an exhaust hanger on the firewall. A better way is to put a 1/2" or 3/4" x 1/8" thick steel bar from a bell housing bolt to the exhaust. Use a muffler clamp on the exhaust pipe and drill the bar to go between the nuts and flat portion of the clamp. This is what AMC did with the tubular exhaust on the L-head, which is also prone to cracking without the brace.
